“We celebrated our engagement anniversary at Café La Vie and had a great night. Matthew was an excellent server—friendly, attentive, and made us feel really taken care of. The food was beautifully plated and delicious (and dessert was a standout). We’ll be back!”

The food was honestly really delicious; we had the baked Brie to start, which was rich and melty in the best way. The short ribs were super tender and flavorful, and the pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked. The risotto and Brussels sprouts were also amazing, and the dessert was delicious. We had a few different cocktails but I did not get any pictures of those, they were also very good.
That said, our table was way too small for the size of our group, and since it’s located inside a hotel, the whole experience felt kind of overpriced. Glad we tried it, but I probably wouldn’t go back.

Decided to go here for my girlfriend’s birthday after reading the reviews. I was a little thrown off at first that it’s located inside the hotel (but that is my fault), but Café La Vie ended up being a great choice. Our waiter, Matthew, did an excellent job and made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. The charcuterie board was really good, the French onion soup was excellent, and they have a very nice drink selection. Overall, the food was great and the experience exceeded expectations. Highly recommend.

My dinning experience at Cafe La Vie was positively sublime in its excellence! The decor was stunning and the ambience was quiet and peaceful, the perfect atmosphere to work or simply live in the moment, and enjoy the dinning experience! Every bite of food was a subtle experience in culinary art, from the delicate lobster bites in the lobster bisque, to the tender, flaky salmon in a subtle sauce that complimented the salmon but still let the salmon shine!

That said, by far, the indisputable best part of the experience was my amazing server Jennie! There are simply not enough words to describe how outstanding and perfect a server she was; from her stellar menu and drink recommendations, to her immense attention to each and every detail from serving a water glass to closing out the cheque, to her wonderful enthusiasm for her job and friendless towards her customers. The stunning jewel in the crown of her amazing service is her deft and skilled drinks! I have never have had drinks that are have made to that caliber that both taste delicious and are equally visually stunning! Jennie made the entire experience unforgettable and definitely worth returning to again and again!

We had a party of 10, day of got reduced to a party of 8. Place was very nice to not charge us for the 2 cancellations.

One of my guests arrived early, she said she asked the bartender how she was doing to which the bartender flatly replied, ‘I’m here.’ And this was the start of what was to come.

Server didn’t greet the table until after sitting for 10+ mins. We all ordered from the prefixed menu. About 10 mins later, the server came back and told us they were out of filet. 2 of us would have to switch. Myself and another guest switched to the scallops. Half the restaurant was empty & the reservation was for 730, so peak dinner time. I ordered the evenings old fashion. There were no cherries or orange peel in it, which was fine. I had asked for a splash of sprite on mine. When the drinks came the guy passing them out had no idea who was getting what. So the drink I ended up with was probably someone else’s old fashion. I asked the server for a little thing of sprite. To which she replied ‘was it not enough for you???’ Seems like an odd response. To which I replied, ‘there isn’t any in my cocktail.’ 10 mins later she came back w/ the soda. Another guests steak was undercooked, to which the server replied, ‘you ordered medium rare, is that not what you wanted?’ Her steak was rare. When the server brought it back, she proceeded to tell the guest ‘I checked the temp when they first came out & it WAS medium rare.’ Super odd way of handling guests.
Then tables around us who arrived after us started getting steak. Like every single table. 3 of the guests at my table would not let up about to the point I had to ask the manager what the deal was since we were told they were out like an hour prior. He said something about the chef going through a ‘transition period’ or something. Sounded like a stretch. Asked if we wanted steak now, but we were on the dessert course, so no. We weren’t going to hold up 6 people’s evening. But the 3 scallops were not worth the cost. Myself and the other guest left hungry. We had food runners trying to drop off food at our table that was for other tables. Overall 2/10.

Edit: I’ll glad give another opportunity on the restaurants own dollar. After spending over $300 on dinner, then paying the sitter, and parking, no way I’m risking another dollar here

My guest and I arrived at 10:25 AM and waited at the entrance for more than 20 minutes. During that entire time, no one came to greet us, acknowledge us, or confirm our reservation. We were completely ignored, and it was only when I went to the back to ask about our seating that someone informed me, without any apology, that “there are no tables available.” This was extremely frustrating, especially given that I had a reservation and could clearly see several empty tables — including high-top seating.
When we were finally seated, the service continued to disappoint. Our table had no sugar, no salt or pepper, and not even a glass of water was offered during the first 20 minutes. We had to flag someone down just to get basic table essentials. There was absolutely no sense of care or attention from the staff.
To make matters worse, the food was unacceptable. The bread that came with my meal was so hard I couldn’t even cut into it, let alone eat it. My guest’s meal was served cold — including the egg, which is hard to understand. How can a freshly prepared egg arrive at the table cold?
I had carefully planned my Saturday morning around this reservation, expecting a smooth and enjoyable breakfast. Instead, I was met with poor communication, lack of service, and food that was clearly not up to standard. The entire experience felt careless, and frankly, disrespectful to paying guests.
I truly hope you take this feedback seriously. What happened during our visit reflects a complete breakdown in hospitality and quality. Guests who reserve ahead should never feel neglected or regret choosing your establishment.

Café La Vie in Clayton, MO, is the restaurant located within the Le Méridien hotel! It has a chic design to it with stylish decor and versatile seating styles.

The spot is a perfect spot for a morning coffee, a lunch meeting, having drinks at the bar for happy hour, or having a sitdown dinner. It’s a very versatile restaurant. They also have different experiences throughout the year such as the champagne and chocolate tasting.

We came for lunch! We tried the cheeseboard which had a lot of variety in addition to the baked brie. The salmon lox BLT (hold that bacon) and the salmon entrée were both delicious. The salmon entree had a crunchiness to it and it was juicy on the inside. All excellent!

Very pleasant dining experience! Angela took great care of us!

I really enjoy the vibe of this place. Totally my thing. Been here a couple of times with my best friend. She had the lamb the first time, but did not care for it. I had their burger and enjoyed it greatly. (Comes with a bacon jam) I convinced her to go again. Said we could just get burgers. Unfortunately, for both of us, the burger buns were so burned that it affected the taste of the entire burger. Both were cooked correctly to what we ordered, one as medium and the other medium well. On both visits we also ordered drinks/cocktails. At both visits, these drinks were quite good. There’s not really a sign on the outside of the building that states Cafe La Vie….it’s inside of the Le Meridien Hotel in the affluent/financial district of Clayton, MO. Gated parking is free if you get your parking ticket stamped at the hotel desk when dining here.

The waitress was very friendly. We made a reservation so we were seated right away. I ordered the wings and a side Caesar salad. The food was ok, salad was a bit dry and the wings were bland. Decor is beautiful!!!
