Easy ordering and the oxtail plate was delicious. First time trying oxtail and will start looking for it more on menus from now on.

Delicious, fast, down to earth, home cooked soul food. Super friendly owners. Seating for ~10 inside. Not sure there could be a better option for lunch in the area. Come early, come often.
Absolutely phenomenal oxtail, collard/mustard greens, and red beans. Candied Yams were like dessert – to be expected.
$21 for Oxtail+Candied Yams+white beans over rice+corn bread
$13 for Fried fish, mustard greens, red beans, rice, cornbread

Great place, and an even better value.
There are only a few tables, so I recommend calling in, and taking it togo. Especially if you’re in the downtown area.
I got a fresh, homemade, perfectly seasoned, thin cut fried pork chop, with grits, scrambled eggs, toast, and a drink for $6.00
They have been in business for over 22 years.
Support local business.

The owner was very attentive and kind. The food we had was scrumptious! We ate the fried chicken plate and the fried pork chops plate. Their sides were yummy: candied yams and collard greens. The cornbread was fluffy and yummy! Definitely recommend you trying this place!

Definitely a hidden gem, my husband and I stopped in after our bike ride near LSU lakes. My grandmother recommended Café Express as the best option for comfort food in Baton Rouge. Everything here was delicious, and of good quality, nothing processed.
Highly recommend
