It didn’t start well, but it did end well.

We came in a few minutes early for our reservation. We’re visiting New Orleans and my husband found this place for our 23rd anniversary dinner.

We were sat. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. Over 30 minutes later I asked someone if it’s normal to wait for over 30 minutes without anyone taking our order.

Turns out that’s not normal at all. Also, he looked mildly horrified, which helped.

Finally we get a waiter and service began. He was great. I was too hungry and annoyed at that point to catch his name, but the food came fast and was good. And he gave us dessert on the house since we waited so much in the beginning.

They have a fig jam with a hint of horseradish that is so good I need to figure out how it’s made. Honestly.

4 stars overall bc of the wait. Otherwise it would be 5 all the way through.

One of my favorite New Orleans restaurants. They’re consistently great and their menu never disappoints. Great French and local staples(with a twist) on their menu and excellent specials for brunch, dinner or just snacks. I love their pate and cheese plates, best onion soup in the city too. They make amazing cocktails and have an extensive wine list. It would be hard to ask for more in twmra of ambience, selection and service.

Amazing food and lovely open air cafe. We went on Thursday as wines are 30% off. Was a beautiful lunch following exploring the close by city park and Art Museum’s amazing sculpture garden.

At Cafe Degas, the service, ambience and food are consistently exceptional. The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and effortlessly elegant, and the French cuisine is always refined, balanced, and memorable. We come here often and always bring our out-of-town guests because it never fails to impress.

What truly sets Cafe Degas apart, though, is the service. Cameron is an outstanding waiter – attentive, warm, and genuinely invested in making sure every detail is perfect. He has a natural ability to make you feel welcomed and taken care of. Allison is so friendly, gracious and professional, and the rest of the staff are polished, attentive, and clearly work as a team.

The Cafe Degas team are a huge part of what makes this place so special, and a big reason why we return again and again.

We went for the happy hour and the hostess let us stay for dinner and we are so glad they were able to accommodate us! The staff was wonderful and provided wonderful recommendations. I highly recommend coming here for dinner if you are in NOLA! The fish was absolutely amazing, as well as the lamb. You must get the “cloud in the pond”!

Wonderful experience, beautiful garden patio with love jazz music, excellent host that explained the history of the restaurants name and went above and beyond to get me a spoon to go. I drove from Florida to this restaurant because google said it had the best french onion soup in new orleans and it was right! It was fantastic! I would highly recommend this charming little restaurant!

I have had multiple french dinners at New Orleans and this is probably the best one. This is also the only one i had that had French Onion Soup (and its good). I had escargots also in many other restaurants around the city, but this one was the best as well =)
Had the lamb for entree and it was decent. Apple pie for dessert was good as well with one tiny scoop of ice cream on the side.
Services were pretty good as well, friendly and nice.
The restaurant was very local and small but yet very busy. I appreciate the authenticity though, it felt very…cozy!

Cafe Degas has such a charming, tucked-away feel, like the kind of place you might stumble upon in a French neighborhood. Everything we ordered was delicious. I’d say the crawfish ravioli was the standout. Service was great. It’s a perfect date spot, though I feel like that’s already common knowledge!

Everything was wonderful… from the service to the delectable dishes. Must haves include the French onion soup and savory hangar steak,… mouth watering delicious! The ambience is spectacular, making you feel as though you’re truly at a French bistro. Absolutely loved their music & it’s vibe. The only concern was a musty/mildewy smell that lingered, however it is “open air”.. We were seated inside. Overall, a 5 star score!
