I have held office hours at the Westport location since they opened and with years of history behind us, I can definitively say that Cafe Corazon is one of the best coffee experiences to be had in Kansas City.
I say experiences for a reason. Friends, I don’t even like coffee.
Of course, they have a stellar regular menu with great coffee drinks. Seasonal menus are inventive and I’m partial to anything Manzanita flavored in autumn because they put these little cinnamon apple crisps on top and it’s delicious. The coffee flight is fun to order with a friend but for me, the Dulce de Leche Latte, iced with extra drizzle is just *chefs kiss*. Occasionally I’ll add an extra shot if I need the jolt and it’s incredible.
Once, Alejandro saw me on my way in and started making my drink before I hit the door, so I had it in hand by the time I hit the register – which leads me to another thing Cafe Corazon does extraordinarily well. Their team is always so friendly and service-oriented. I love it!
They offer a comprehensive Yerba Mate menu, and it’s fun to overhear staff explain the history and ritual to folks who’ve never tried it before. The empanadas (made by Pan Caliente, a local Argentinian bakery) and accompanying chimichurri sauce is out of this world.
The artwork is colorful annd vibrant and I love when they decorate for holidays. They have a gorgeous ofrenda every year for Dia de los Muertos. The sense of community and Latin American culture that shows up so intentionally in every detail is just as warming as the coffee. That’s why I say experience.
Cafe Corazon has tasty coffee but it’s so much more. This location is a cozy little haven on Westport Rd. and I’m so happy to see them continue to grow and influence the KC coffee landscape.
“This is a safe place for everyone.”
Young lady at the counter didn’t seem to know her product which left me choosing something out of desperation… A cold fruit tea. Can’t say I loved it, but can’t say I hated it either.
My friend a Tomali and I had a burnt, been reheated for too long ham and cheese croissant. It was all very expensive too.
However, it’s a calm, beautiful place.
Highly recommended cafe, they have a wide variety of specialty beverages of Latin American heritage. We’ll be back the next time were in town.
Situated in Westport Road, this place actually took the place of another women-owned business, named Circle Tax & Accounting, which moved out of that space in 2019, after over 20 years in that space.
I first heard about this hole-in-the-wall back in 2024, and I’d actually been curious to see what it was like. My first visit to this place led to a lovely impromptu coffee date with someone standing in line, which definitely was a highlight of the year from me.
Driving to this particular store, you get an idea of what to expect. The mural on the side of the store is very pretty, featuring Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, painted alongside a “Linden Pharmacy” ghost sign from a Westport long ago. When you walk in, you’re greeted with an absolutely lovely aroma that screams “feminine warmth” (or just gingerbread), and plenty of music in Spanish to vibe along to. The interior, is very warm and inviting, and colorful, encouraging conversation, which greatly contrasts with the ambience of postmodern coffee shops of today. Starbucks would only dream of this type of ambience.
Karen, one of the baristas, was simply amazing. Very kind, attentive, and diligent in her craft. I ran into several other amazing personnel at this location, who work diligently and passionately to deliver the best product every single time, and to ensure everyone feels welcome in this safe space.
This menu features lots of great Latin-inspired drinks, such as the classic Cafe de Olla, the fan-favorite Horchata Latte, and the adventurous Spicy Mayan Mocha, as well as Latin Soda with Tajin and your choice of cream. If you ask me, there isn’t just one menu highlight; all of it is exceptional (and my go-to is usually Horchata Latte, and the Matchata). Seasonal drinks, such as the BanaChoco Latte, the Chappell Roan menu (which features a “Pink Pony” Hibiscus Lemonade), and the Bizcochito Latte, are always a treat and will keep the menu fresh.
It does tend to be an investment (but then again, which coffee shop *isn’t* pricey these days?), so expect to pay a premium for their drinks, but I think it’s absolutely worth it since you’re supporting a Latin-owned, women-owned business in Kansas City.
Generally speaking, this place is definitely a must-try if you’re ever in the KC metro. The flavors, the ambience, the friendly staff, all of it is amazing, in fact, I got so enamored with the store’s aroma, I decided to buy one of the little air freshener scents to hang on my car for the new Fall season.
That said, Cafe Corazon is highly recommendable, especially if you want to support a Latino-owned, or women-owned small business in the area. I know I’d always wanted to be a regular supporter of a local women-owned business. It’s a great place to hang out; I’ve met lots of great people here, which, I think, is hard to do in third spaces anymore. I’ve also been informed that fans of L.A. sports teams hang out here, such as the Raiders and the Dodgers, so California transplants in the periphery will definitely enjoy this spot.
The only caveat is that parking is virtually nonexistent much of the time, so you’re kind of on your own when it comes to that. Otherwise, this is a wonderful spot.
