Cafe at the Square has an amazing atmosphere and eye-catching sketch portraits. I love the location and it’s nestled around the nicer downtown hotels.

I ordered the Chicken & Waffles with OM Eggs. The chicken is seasoned to perfectly compliment the waffles and maple syrup. Great flavor, albeit the chicken is a little dry. It’s a very filling breakfast. I’d order it again.

The service was friendly and polite. I enjoyed my experience and would eat here again.

Went for brunch on Sunday. Ordered fried green tomato Benedict it came with a choice of fried diced potatoes or grits…. It was very delicious, my only slight complaint was the poached eggs were overcooked- no big deal, just no run at all. Get the grits add some pepper jack cheese 🙂 the fried green tomato with grilled shrimp was also amazing…. Shrimp very tasty. Then there was the entertainment which is named David Smith(manager I think) Looking for some friendly sarcasm and heckling, go no further. Honestly he was a very nice guy. Would definitely recommend, and will be back for the free meal David promised publicly!

A Hidden Gem at Cafe at the Square!

I stumbled upon Cafe at the Square, and what a delightful surprise it was! The unassuming and understated decor belied the culinary treasures that awaited us. The food was truly exceptional! The French toast, waffles, and over easy eggs were perfection personified.

The over easy eggs were a masterclass in texture and flavor, with a perfectly runny yolk and beautifully crispy edges. The French toast had just the right amount of soak, making each bite a sweet and satisfying experience. And the waffles? Crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside – a perfect balance!

But what truly made our experience stand out was the cordial staff. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming, they made us feel right at home.

Needless to say, we’ll be coming back to Cafe at the Square again and again. If you’re looking for a hidden gem with great food and a warm atmosphere, look no further! 5 stars and highly recommended!

We had our final breakfast at Café at the Square, located near Lafayette Square. The menu features a blend of American and Creole flavors, even for breakfast. We shared the yogurt with fruit. We also ordered BLT, shrimp and grits, French toast with pecans, and bacon and eggs. The shrimp and grits stood out as some of the best we’ve ever had, and the French toast was so delicious. Our server, Kenneth, added a lively touch to the meal, making the experience all the more enjoyable.

We stopped in the restaurant as it appeared to have a few healthier options to eat, more reasonable prices, and wasn’t crowded.
I treated myself to the fried green tomatoes which were pretty good with a light breading. I also ordered the “Chicken Lafayette” which said a “light cream sauce” so it came out heavier and richer than anticipated but still tasted good, and I loved the veggies and mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the “Resolution Salad” with chicken and he said it was ok, but a little smaller than anticipated and the chicken didn’t have much flavor. The food was nice, and it was great to have options that weren’t fried if you’re trying to eat healthier.

We got some dinner at the cafe at the square. We went there about an hour before close and it was just a very relaxed and peaceful meal. I got a grilled chicken sandwich, and it was amazing. And they gave you the biggest serving of fries I’ve ever seen. Very fresh, very crisp, very delicious. The staff are quick and polite, and the atmosphere is laid back. You’ll probably spend about 10 to $15 per person here. I don’t see that it would be an issue to take any kids with you here. This is a spot that you want to walk to I believe. Although I did see some cars pulling up on the street outside but I don’t think those were parking spots. Overall great experience and if I had the chance I would come back.

Had a very good breakfast at reasonable prices. This is a no nonsense diner like decor so don’t expect anything fancy, just good food and good service. A very extensive breakfast menu and eat access to hotels around the Caesar’s casino. The eggs were perfectly done which is harder than it sounds, at least for most breakfast restaurants. Service was efficient and pleasant. We give four clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale

I had a quick bite at this cute little cafe. Service was fast and friendly and the food was excellent! Crab cake BLT and side salad with house made vinaigrette dressing. The crab cake BLT was loaded with baby spinach, sliced juicy tomato, thick cut, smokey, crispy bacon, on toast with a side of creamy, packed-with-flavor remoulade dressing. And let’s talk about this crab crake for a minute – fried to perfection, crispy, golden brown, no filler, mouth watering. Everything was fresh and made to order. And because I ate alone, I was able to enjoy the beautiful view of the park and do some people watching too! I had this fabulous lunch for $25 with tip. It was a steal!

I recently had breakfast at this charming cafe and overall, it was a delightful experience. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, creating a pleasant ambiance for a morning meal. The location was also ideal, conveniently situated in a great spot.
One aspect that truly stood out was the delicious breakfast.
However, one area where the cafe could improve is the attentiveness of the staff. While the service was not terrible, I did notice a slight lack of attentiveness from time to time. There were moments when it took longer than expected to receive assistance or have questions answered. Enhancing the staff’s attentiveness and responsiveness would certainly elevate the overall dining experience.
Nonetheless, I would still recommend this cafe to others. The wonderful atmosphere, great location, and delicious food make it a worthwhile visit. With a bit of improvement in the service aspect, this cafe has the potential to be an outstanding choice for breakfast or any other meal of the day.

07/12/2024 – First visit to Cafe At The Square and it was an enjoyable experience. Located in downtown New Orleans, also located within the Blake Hotel, and also belonging to the BH the cafe offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is open to the public not just the BH’s guests. Nice comfortable seating with nice decor. There is also a small bar. For breakfast I ordered the Breakfast Melt and a cup of coffee. Delicious and the coffee was fresh. Nearby parking for a fee. Awesome service. Thanks, Ken. Great prices.
