Cafe Amelie is a small place serving up big flavors right in the French Quarter. We had a reservation there during the last weekend of Mardi Gras and we are glad we decided to go here. Checking in was very quick and we were able to be seated without our full party, which we were very grateful for. Our server was patient and understanding with our party size and our requests for changes to our dishes. Ordering was quick and the food came out promptly even with a busy restaurant.

We ordered the waffles with a side of bacon, the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream, peeled gulf shrimp, and a bowl of gumbo. The waffle was standard and the bacon was nice and crispy. All three other dishes were fantastic. Starting with the gumbo, easily the best we’ve ever had. Full of savory flavors and spice without being too heavy in one direction; incredibly balanced dish. Likewise, the peeled gulf shrimp were a hit. The shrimp was cooked right and the peppery but sweet flavors came out in refreshing bursts. Lastly, the chocolate molten lava cake was the sweet we needed at the end of the meal, it was decadent.

We were pleased with our meal here and thankfully so because we had high hopes when we came in. Between great food and the vintage New Orleans appeal of the inside (add fantastic service too), we feel strongly that Cafe Amelie is a spot you should hit if you’re in the French Quarter and want a great brunch full of Cajun flavor.

Everything we had was satisfying and delicious. Atmosphere is lovely, a little tight so reservations are probably the best route. The shrimp and grits were one of the better ones we’ve tried in our trip. The waffles of the chicken and waffles were soggy from the sauce, but the sauce is delicious so that makes up for that. The bread pudding was very bready and filling but delicious.

I’d been wanting to try Café Amelie for a while, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The food and service were fantastic from start to finish. The courtyard was beautifully decorated for Halloween, and all the staff were in full clown makeup—it added such a fun, festive touch without taking away from the great dining experience.

Food and drinks were both on point. The house special blackberry whiskey cocktail was a standout. The beet salad and BLT were excellent, and the pork sandwich—the cochon—was absolutely loaded with tender, flavorful pork.

Perfect mix of charm, creativity, and great food. Definitely worth the wait!

Lovedddd the atmosphere. Chose to sit inside but it was very cool and chilly. It was very relaxing. The interior is soooo cozy and cute too. The shrimp&grits and the poutine was very good. The BLT was nothing special but not bad. I recommend for a chill relaxing healthy brunch or lunch while busily touring new orleans!

When you come to New Orleans, you have to eat here! This was a true gem we found wandering away from the hype of Bourbon Street. The gumbo was everything we wanted and more—very flavorful with a touch of heat. We also had the shrimp appetizer and new pasta entree. Our lunch was highlighted by their signature drink and a double espresso to finish it off. We will return again and again. All the servers were delightful!

Lovely café. The host was so kind. I arrived solo at opening time 5:30, and was seated right away without reservations. I was dining alone. I would recommend reservations. The food was delicious- Gumbo!

Sat in the courtyard and had a great time with my party! The bloody mary and shrimp+grits is a MUST have. You can tell by the finished plate I didn’t want to waste even a little bit! Service is also great and so welcoming.

I had the spinach and artichoke dip and the fig and nut bread. It was very busy and service was very very slow and inattentive. It took about 15 minutes to get an orange juice and a solid 45 minutes to get the food. Then there was something floating in the bottom of my water glass and it took a long time to get the waitresses attention, and even longer to get a new glass and more water. I’m sorry to say that my experience wasn’t like so many others.

This place had really great vibes. We had no wait which was really nice. I’m not sure it’s worth a long wait. The portions are on the smaller size and the food is good. The vibes are calm.
