Gosh, where do I begin.
This is a place I need to start recommending to people visiting Maine for the first time. Lobster is already an iconic experience of a food of the area, but having it on a small island you take a ferry to is truly something special.
It’s fun to walk around the island while you wait for your food. And the meal itself is incredible too.
Only thing I didn’t like was the clam chowder, which was rather watery.

The staff is great to talk to as well. I can’t imagine the work that goes into running a place like this but it’s something I’d recommend to anyone looking for a quintessential Maine experience.

Take a 45 minute boat ride and guided harbor tour out to Cabbage Island. Once there you get two lobsters, clams, a baked potato, corn on the cob, a hard boiled egg, and an onion. You get a generous piece of fresh blueberry cake. The views on the island are amazing also.

We went on this excursion today and had a wonderful time. The boat ride there and back was informative and relaxing. The food was plentiful and the staff was friendly. I would definitely do this again.

We are from Kansas City and this vacation was our first time to Maine. I had heard about Cabbage Island Clambake as being a highly recommended experience. So- I put it on our itinerary and I’m sooooo glad we went. I LOVED IT! It’s a winner and a must! The lobster and clam were my first and the bar is now set super high. The meal was so good. Don’t miss out.

On 7/4 we boarded the Bennie Alice and learned all kinds of cool stuff from Captain Gusto on the way to Cabbage Island, a beautiful little island near Boothbay Harbor. They’ve been doing their huge seafood bakes for 60 years, which makes sense— the team moves like a well oiled machine, something that comes from years of perfecting your craft. We got to explore a little bit while the team prepared their famous clam bake, which includes: clam chowder, TWO big old lobsters, steamed clams, corn on the cob, a baked potato, a hard boiled egg, and a thick slice of Blueberry Cake. They also have a chicken option if lobster isn’t your thing, and a hot dog option for kids. You’re also allowed to bring your own food! My partner and I packed a vegan picnic (though I absolutely did eat some of this food. You expect me to ever stay away from blueberry pastries?????)

This was one of the highlights of our trip. The food was fabulous. Everything was cooked to perfection and the atmosphere was very laid back and very enjoyable. They even wrapped up our left overs. The blueberry cake was amazing. The boat ride to the island was nice. Saw some beautiful scenery and wildlife. Would give 10 stars if I could. We will definitely go back.

My Wife and I were here for an organization outing. A full boat of us came for fundraising and fellowship.
The boat tour of Boothbay Harbor included lighthouses and beautiful homes before docking at the island.
The servers for each area did a great job of instructing and setting expectations for the event. Seating is primarily picnic tables amongst the trees spread all over. There was an inside area near the restrooms, heavily trafficked. There was also a small area in the back where there were several tables on a deck. This is where we sat although the furthest we could have been from where you go to pick up the food. It was definitely quieter and had a nice view over the water.
Food was plentiful and delicious. Speaking mainly about the lobster and steamers. The Native Maine Blueberry Cake was devoured by all.
Finally the cruise back to Boothbay was amazing during sunset.

It’s one of the best excursions I’ve ever been on.
Wayne and Bob got around and spoke to all, as others grilled an incredible lobster/clam feast. And to top it off, it was on a beautiful island after a boat trip that allowed us to see seals, gorgeous houses, and a rocky coast meant for Norman Rockwell paintings. I’d highly recommend this trip and look forward to doing it again.
