This review is for the catering aspect, and customer service in general. We had catering for a large event, and once these people have your money, they honestly do not care about you anymore. The day before the event, they called us to try to tack on $150 extra for food tray set up, which was never discussed previously with the owner when the food was originally paid for. They said the $1500+ that we spent, is only for cooking and transportation of the food (??) Chaffing dishes and sterno lamps are extra. Then on the day of, we noticed some sauces were missing, and the food trays are so shallow. Compared to other food caterers we’ve been to, the amount of food for that much money didn’t add up. We brought that up to the restaurant staff after the event was done, and they basically just waived us away. Did not care. There’s plenty of other Filipino food restaurants out there, not worth wasting your time on this one.

I ate lunch today at this very small Filipino fast-food restaurant and was very satisfied with my food order. The Pancit and sinigang Pampano were delicious and taste like home cooked food!
The downside to this restaurant is that it is too small with only 2 tables where patrons can sit to eat.

Update- 4 out of 5 excellent experiences. Food is excellent, but they will short u on the protein, lol. Drove from Oakland and they made me think I was getting a deal? Large for the price of a small?! Yeah 2 smal pieces of chicken and a bunch of potatoes, lol watch your back…
Update-went back yesterday, the exact opposite, large portions of protein and great curry and beefsteak! Go figure…

I love Filipino food. Cabalen food, I would happily recommend to many Filipinos I met BEFORE but not anymore. Most of their foods now are very, very oily. Today, we bought their menudo and binagoongan with rice . Both were SO OILY/GREASY !!! Menudo has less meat with many fillers. The taste is more of a hotdog flavor than menudo. The fish paste they used is spicy for binagoongan. Not all people eats spicy food. The rice today is soggy. My parents would scold me if I cooked rice like this. I thought the rice will save the disaster binagoongan and menudo but It cannot. We threw away all of them in the garbage. The “kakanin- 3 pichi-pichi, 1 kutchinta, 1 Biko, 1 maja Mai’s are too sweet, the grated coconut not as fresh and there is slight after taste of an old container were they probably kept for a while. It took us only few bites to decide we need to stop eating and dump all this food in the garbage. We bought extra large orders of menudo and spaghetti to be brought to a relative but we also decided to dump them, untouched! If we cannot eat them why we let our friend and relative eat them.
I’m sorry Calabalen the quality of your food is not as good as before. It’s scary unhealthy for anyone. We were at the park to eat what we ordered and met a Filipino couple who got the same comment about your food.
We wish Cabalen could improve the food that they are selling. Sad that we decided not to go back to any Cabalen restaurants. Today is the last day. Hope you still thrive. Thanks if you read this review.

IT WAS MY FIRST TIME THERE. I’d never eaten Filipino food before. Everything was great. The only small problem was their MACARONI SALAD that had a lot of shredded chicken in it and no cheese. They should put in the cheese where the put in the chicken, But I’ll be back .
