Byrd’s Hot Chicken just opened in Libertyville, and honestly? I’m already thinking about when I can go back.
The second you walk in, you notice how clean and welcoming it is. The whole place has this modern, energetic vibe with good music playing in the background. But what really made the difference was the manager JZ. He was actually there, greeting people, checking on tables, making sure everyone was happy. It felt personal in a way that’s pretty rare these days.
The staff was awesome too—friendly without being over the top, and they genuinely seemed to care. Before they even started cooking, they asked about our spice tolerance and made everything to our liking. That kind of attention to detail? It matters.
And here’s something huge for the Muslim community: everything at Byrd’s is 100% halal certified. They’re certified by Halal Monitoring Services (HMS) Getbyrds, and they use hand Zabiha halal chicken Byrd’s Hot Chicken. Their chicken is sourced from halal-certified suppliers, and they’re careful about their oil, utensils, and prep areas to maintain purity and compliance.

And the food… look, we went in saying we’d just try a couple things. We ended up eating way more than we planned because we couldn’t stop. Everything is made fresh to order, and you can really taste the difference.
The classic hot chicken sandwich is killer—crispy, juicy chicken on a soft brioche bun with coleslaw, pickles, and their signature sauce. It’s messy in the best way, and since they adjusted the heat to what we wanted, it was perfect.
The Byrd Bomb is ridiculous (in a good way). Chopped chicken tenders on Texas toast, piled over fries, covered in cheese, coleslaw, pickles, and sauce. It’s a lot, but trust me, you’ll finish it.
Their wings are really good too—you can get them tossed in Buffalo, BBQ, or Mango Habanero. The sides actually hold their own—the fries are crispy and well-seasoned, and even the potato salad surprised me.
Everything came out hot and fresh.
It’s not often you find a place that gets everything right—the food, the service, the whole atmosphere. But Byrd’s does.
Whether you’re a hot chicken person or just want really good comfort food, this place delivers.
Libertyville just got lucky. Get there before the word spreads too much.
Oh, and do yourself a favor—order the chicken tenders. I’m serious. Once you try them, you’re going to forget about everything else on the menu. They’re that good. Golden, perfectly seasoned, juicy… honestly some of the best I’ve had. You’ve been warned.

Saw this place before they opened and seen they recently opened so decided to come try it out. I ordered the mac n cheese byrd bowl and it was very tasteful to say the least. For the chicken on top you can choose any flavor of heat/sauce and they also add a generous amount of their “24k sauce” on top of it all. Service was great, the guy who took my order was very friendly. There was a little longer than usual wait for the food, but it’s because it was made fresh. Definitely recommend this place for anyone, they have a lot of options for food and desserts

Got this place for me and a few employees.
Chicken sandwiches- small piece of chicken and Taste like oil. Spice was good but not enough for me to get again, rating 6.5
Fish sandwich was god awful . Absolutely terrible!!! rating 3.2
And the wings are probably top 3 worst i have ever had Rating 2.5
Also someone commented about the wing size. See photo . Thats my hand to compare. Fyi im not a giant!

Love this Zabiha halal spot,Have been here for quick bite but ended up ordering alot… First of all the taste of the food was soooo good and there are lot of options such as cheese burger, philly cheese and quesadilla.. The byrd bomb is the mustttt try and the food here is always made fresh and the customer service is on point… The dine in area is quite big and even having parking area too….

Hands down one of the best chicken sandwiches I may have ever tried! I got the fries and potato salad. I typically am not a big fan of crinkle cut fries but these were incredible! Perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The potato salad was well do as well! I will definitely be back!

By far the best wings I’ve found in lake county, the whole wings are breaded and cooked to order so it might take 10-12 minutes. But well worth it. Crinkle cut fries seasoned Haven’t tried anything else yet due to I can’t stop ordering the wings

Decided to give them a try and was sadly very disappointed. Called my order in they said it would take 25 min got there and they said it would take another 10 min but the order literally took 45min+ which I wouldn’t complain about if the food was actually good but it was horrible. Chicken was way undercooked and the tenders and sandwich I got was ok but literally had no flavor was just obnoxiously hot. Hard pass for me.
