First time here. Service was great. Food..no. 2 bones, SALTY, Mac was overcooked which is why the cheese curdles or it was reheated too much, big chunks of cream cheese in it, sausage wasn’t smoked and was cold..they use jalapeño cheese sausage . Hubs got the pulled pork sandwich with slaw; salty and sweet and the slaw was literally just wet cabbage. The sweet tea was amazing tho.
For a first visit, on a not busy time, I can’t say it’s worth it. Food should be hot. Most importantly, food should be fresh.

Butcher Paper BBQ is hands-down some of the best barbecue you’ll ever eat! The brisket is tender, the ribs fall right off the bone, and the smoked mac and cheese is legendary. Beyond the food, Mark and his team always make you feel so welcome when you walk in—it’s that true Auburn-Opelika hospitality.
I love seeing local businesses like this thrive and give back to the community, and Mark does exactly that. As someone who helps folks relocating to Auburn and Opelika find their place here, I always tell them that gems like Butcher Paper BBQ are part of what makes this area such a great place to call home.
Thank you, Mark, for sharing your passion (and your amazing food!) with all of us. Highly recommend stopping by Butcher Paper BBQ in Opelika—you won’t leave hungry!

Unbelievable soft tender, fall apart brisket. I just found my new favorite bbq! The brisket bark to is super tasty, moist perfect rings of smokey and just incredible.
Words are escaping me at the moment! Love their vinegar base sauce as well as the homemade dill pickles that are thin sliced with just the right amount of vinegar and spices. I will be back here very soon! Thank you so much for the incredible bbq!!

Hole in the wall bbq joint. The meat was tender and had plenty of smoke. Best brisket I’ve had east of the Mississippi. BBQ beans were great too.

I have been trying to find a BBQ place to replace my favorite since we moved here, and I found it!! I got the pulled pork plate and the pork was perfect! Great flavor, moist, just perfect! I also got the Brunswick stew and baked potato. The stew was very good and would get that again! I am not usually impressed with a potato because there is not much to it, but the potato was super good as well. Not sure how they cook those, but keep doing that! I’m sure after the rave review, why only 4 stars? My husband had the brisket plate. Unfortunately, the brisket was dry and when you pay that much, you want it to be good. Do I care? Yes, but no. I will definitely go back for the pulled pork and he will give the brisket another try. Some days just don’t go as planned when cooking. So, if you are in Opelika, definitely try this place. It is totally worth the stop! Not pictured this time, I was hungry!

The meat is definitely smoked. If you like outside meat then this place is perfect for you.
The sandwich was massive and had good flavor. The pickles were homemade and outstanding. The pork plate and two sides were more than I could eat. The Mac and cheese had a different texture and took away from the flavor. The bbq beans had a lot of meat and good smoke flavor.
The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 was the meat with the heavy smoke. The meat had been off the smoker for a while which caused it to dry out.
All and all it was good.

I placed an order for our family to pick up after a funeral. We were later than expected, and they were still incredibly helpful and got us everything we needed. Folks loved it. The mac and cheese was a big hit with everyone. I appreciate them for being so kind and accommodating on a hard day.

“Hey Google, give me the best places to eat In Opelika.” Well this bbq spot showed up and thank goodness I was craving bbq. So let’s start off with the environment and staff. The environment is soo cute. The spot was definitely any other bbq would have, small, little house-like buildings with old paintings and the smell of smokes in the air. I like it. Sure it may have some scraps but it really shows how old and historic it looks. The staff was friendly and helpful. The lady that took was very informative and polite. And the guy that gave my food was quick and clear. Also to mention I went on a Wednesday. Now with the food.. it was okay. Mid. The brisket was very tender and juicy, yet it had a taste to it. That I didn’t like. Same goes for the wings, grilled nicely and cooked throughly yet it had a taste that i couldn’t describe. My sides were stew and baked beans.. I wasn’t feeling the stew that much. The baked beans were ok. Genuinely this place was okay. I can’t say more than that. Also grab peanut butter pie, I did like that. It was creamy and delicious!! You guys should totally check out the place for yourself. Everyone’s opinions is different. I won’t be returning.

The staff was great! I believe I met the owner while I was there. I could hear how proud he is of what he sells to the public. Once something is sold out, better luck next time you visit.
I had the brisket plate with their BBQ baked beans and brunswick stew. I ordered a side of three ribs. They were calling me. LoL. Every bite of what I had ordered was awesome. This is a must stop if you are in the Opekila area!!
