It took a few tries (4), but we finally got in to try out this restaurant. On the 3rd try we were told we had a table but turned away upon arrival. Great atmosphere. Potato soup and spinach artichoke dip were delicious. The pork chop is okay. The sea bass was great. Chocolate mousse cake was wonderful. Tea was excellent. Coffee was hearty. Typically in restaurants of this type and price, a manager makes their rounds to see each table. That was missing. Overall a good place to take your time, relax, and enjoy great food.

Butcher & Barrel in Huntingburg, IN is an extraordinary find that shatters expectations. My son, working a one-month stint in Jasper—a town with even fewer dining options than Evansville—was recommended this gem by his preceptor as a standout alternative to Jasper’s fare. We’ve returned multiple times since, and it never disappoints. The shrimp and grit cakes burst with rich, savory flavor, the french airline chicken rivals the finest big-city restaurants, and the craft cocktails are masterfully crafted. Astonishingly high-caliber for such a small town, the exceptional wait staff—some even from Orange County and South Florida—delivers warm, attentive service with a personal touch. Every detail, from execution to presentation to the thoughtfully curated decor in the historic bank building, creates a charming, unforgettable dining experience. Being seated in the vault added a thrilling, unique flair. With its outstanding cuisine and welcoming team, Butcher & Barrel easily ranks among the top three restaurants within a 50-mile radius of Evansville, IN. An absolute must-visit—highly recommend!

For all that I’m rating this four stars, it is comparing it over the nation. This is a standout steakhouse, with a wonderful converted bank setting, with high enough ceilings not to get too loud even when packed. It boasts an incredible Bourbon list at very, very reasonable prices for what they have on offer. I’ve been four times now, and have never been disappointed. On the service side, one of the most important aspects is that they are up-front and clear in their communications. If the grits are out, they tell you when they hand you the menu before you have your heart set upon it. When I ordered my burger rare, rather than bring it out med well, the kitchen had the waiter communicate that they set limits on how rare they cook based on food safety standards. That is never a problem, and it came out nicely pink in the center. Clear communication is far far better than any disappointment. They are clear and accurate on the menu of what the rarity of the steaks mean, and they meet their own standards to the mark. The steak tartare is one of best that I’ve had. This stands as perhaps the best dining in Jasper that I’ve had to date, and we will be returning.

Well done!! We stopped in for lunch and had a fabulous meal. The food was excellent, and the drink menu was inventive. The Hamilton’s Sin Garden was well balanced and tasty. Add in the amazing service and ambiance and you have a gem worth the drive. See you again, B&B.

Drove 45 minutes for a 7pm reservation. Arrived at 6:50 and our table wasn’t ready, no problem. Observation of the restaurant, space is wasted by 4 tops being used to parties of 2. By 7:10, a couple without reservations were seated at a table that had been open the whole time. 7:15 we are finally seated.

Time to order, we tried the BBQ-terie, awesome! However the kitchen messed up and gave us pork instead of bacon which I was most looking forward to. Entrees were Salmon and NY Strip. The salmon needed seasoning beyond glaze, vegetables were underwhelming. NY Stip cut was of expected quality, but it was well done when requested medium. At this point we have been here way too long and we’re not waiting on a refire. For these prices, plates should have two sides. Our waiter was awesome. However, he had to run tables on both the first and second floor, making our wait for service twice as long. Overall time time for 2 guests, 1 hour 50 minutes who do not drink alcohol.

Overall this place had no leadership presence. There aren’t dedicated roles, host, manager, food runner, etc. The waiters are running around juggling it all and the customers can feel it. You have great potential waiting to be harnessed.

Traveled here from Evansville hoping for something different but was sorely disappointed. I had really good hopes for this place considering the reviews but it definitely didn’t live up to it. Started out being led upstairs to a tiny table in a small alcove where you couldn’t even take in the atmosphere. We ordered the bread basket for
an appetizer as well as a drink from the bar. Both of those took at least 15-20 minutes to receive. I then tried to order a filet and the waiter said that they were out, at prime dinner hour on a Saturday night. Ended up ordering the ribeye, which was well cooked but not anything to write home about. The sides felt like they were instant and I didn’t care to finish the mashed potatoes. My husband decided to try the house special rigatoni bolognese and it was very bland and he described it as missing something. I tried it and it was missing everything you would think of in a bolognese. Overall for a $121 dinner without the tip I will definitely not be going back. At this rate just go to your local chain steakhouse.

Stop in while in town without a reservation. They didn’t have any tables available but the bar was free. The servers at the bar was so friendly and provided us alot of information about the area. I ordered the huntingburger and it was delicious. Highly recommend. It was pretty prices average $30 and up for a meal. But well worth it.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here last night and we are extremely impressed to say the least! You walk in the door and immediately forget you’re in small-town Indiana.

The atmosphere is unlike any restaurant in the area. The renovations they did with the old bank accentuates the beautiful detail and history of the old building AND we even got a specialty seat in the vault

Now let’s move on to the best part…the food and drink!!! I had an espresso martini and it was easily the best martini i’ve tasted. We ordered bread and deviled eggs for appetizers, new york strips and baked potatoes for entrees and a crème brûlée alongside their seasonal blueberry spice sorbet.

Our waitress Cheryl was beyond knowledgeable on the food, drink, and buildings unique history. She was a joy to be served by and we absolutely will ask for her every time we come!

So, if you have been eyeballing Butcher & Barrel, this is your sign to make a reservation ASAP and make sure you ask for Cheryl
