My wife and I were in town visiting relatives and we decided to try this place out. Huge portions compared to what we’re used to in our state. We lived in Japan for a while and we love trying local cuisine so this checked all the adventure boxes for us. While there’s minimal seating at the stand, we dined at the shop in the corner and got to enjoy watching the goonies before diving into some classic video games. A millennial couldn’t ask for a better day. This place lived up to the hype and we would be happy to return next time we’re in the area!

Endless love for Busu!

Sending my gratitude to the owner, Kenzo. He always takes the time to write a sweet message on my to-go orders, and asks how my day is going. I much appreciate that I can shoot him a text to place an order too!

The menu changes day by day depending on what’s seasonallly fresh. Very generous portions when it comes to dishes like the yakisoba and gyudon. Makes delicious leftovers for the next day. Easily the best Japanese food in Astoria – this person is part of what makes the town special.

Busu is in a league of its own. Passionate and knowledgable with a genuine love for community and local food that shines through everything he makes and every interaction with patrons. We love coming here. My favorites are the pickle plate, kimchi, and pork belly yakisoba but everything is phenomenal. We are newer to the area and we especially loved getting to try so many locally foraged mushrooms for the first time through Busu dishes this fall. Thank you Chef!

Honestly, the best food we had in Astoria!
We missed our opportunity last time we visited so it was on our must do list. We just knew it was gonna be bomb.
This place is so legit and the owner is so friendly and down to earth.
He had two items on the menu:
A curry miso soup
And yakisoba with pork belly, tofu, or both.
(We of course got both )
The miso was so unique in flavor with an abundance of gorgeous mushrooms
Perfect comfort food on a rainy day.
And I’m still Dreaming about the yakisoba!
This is how you do noodles. The flavor was against super unique. A gorgeous pile of noodles and The pork belly was cooked to perfection. Nice and thick and meaty and complimented with fat.
We had a lot left over and ate at the next day and it was just as good cold, tbh. 😉
We had an “upscale” dinner Elsewhere cause it was my birthday, but honestly, I’d rather celebrate with a meal from Busu next time.

Cute little store with Japanese setting run by a good owner. Fresh locally sourced ingredients you can tell at first bites. Food is always delicious, i had pickled plate, yakisoba and black cod miso soup, look forward to trying other things on the menu.

I felt very lucky to stumble across this little window after I had just bought two gigantic pencils at the bric-a-brac store next door! Call it kismet, call it serendipity, call it what you will. Chef called out a compliment on the pencils, and that got me to notice his window and board. I ordered the Yakisoba and ate at the window. I enjoyed my conversation with the chef during my lunch – he’s an interesting and caring person. Delicious, hearty, and generous dish served by a hearty and generous spirit!

The food was phenomenal!! He was serving up congee and tuna melts today. Perfect for a chilly day. I had to get both and will be stopping by every time I’m back in Astoria.

OMGGGGGGG!!!! Go for lunch immediately! The menu is donation based – with suggested donations listed – and worth double! My partner and I made it a point to go for lunch on a trip last weekend to Astoria and it was the best meal we had the whole trip!!!!!!!!! We shared the yakisoba, mushroom congee, some picked mushrooms with kimchi and a little tea. We sat at the window and talked with Chef Kenzo about food, philosophy, and living in all the places before coming home to the PNW. Do yourself a huge favor and make eating there a top priority. Thank you Kenzo!

A bit insane the prices this guy charges. It’s essentially a food truck serving street food, no indoor seating with several small stools outside, yet is priced like an expensive restaurant. And “donation based” is complete bs, if the owner takes a look at you and deems you as able to pay he promptly passes you the full bill which is like 18+ dollars for seemingly affordable food. Really weird way to do business. A bit hypocritical for the owner to preach his philosophy but then overcharge locals and take advantage of tourists.

Also, 120 dollars a person for omakase is more than Michelin rated places in LA and NYC…crazy expensive. There are way better values in Astoria.
