Of all the Mexican Food Restaurants I’ve dined at in my lifetime, and that has been many many locations from coast to coast, Burrito Express ranks as one of my top three. There is a valid reason for Burrito Express being rated the Top Mexican Food Restaurant in Athens AL.
The food is absolutely delicious, the service is exceptional. You are treated as a valued guest from the moment you enter. If we’re in the area this is where we go. Locally for us, Burrito Express sets the standard.

Waiter was very nice, I knew the food would be good when the chips and salsa were good. He was very attentive and nice bringing us unlimited chips and salsa upon request also. We also got our own salsa cups so we didn’t have to share which was great. Salsa could have been a little spicier but my kids were with me so we all had the mild one. Bathroom and restaurant looked and smelled clean. Tables and chairs were packed in making it a little tight in there. Meat was a bit dry but otherwise everything had a good flavor even the rice was good which I’ve had unseasoned many times other places. Ice water was good and didn’t taste and smell like nasty city water like you get many times in restaurants. I can’t remember what they called them but I got their special beans that had sausage, bacon and more in them, very good! Would go back again if I lived closer.

Don’t let the name fool you. It’s not Mexican fast food. From the salsa to the fillings – everything was fresh made. We had shrimp burrito and California casadilla with beef. Outstanding! The shrimp, which were huge, (very surprised) and the steak and the all the veggies were grilled perfectly. Add to it excellent service and clean it was one of the best Mexican restaurants we’ve been to and we’ll certainly return soon. Tried taco soup for lunch, very tasty. Would order it again for certain.

Very detailed place.only thing i didnt like was that all the food came out at the same time including the salad, so there wasnt much room to place all the plates while/after eating.update 11-17-22 much better taste’s than before even though it wasn’t bad at all but the tastes are more authentic than before!even! We were hesitant to go in here but only because it always looked empty. Empty restaurants mean bad food. We were so wrong. Santiago was thee best server we have had in a very long time. We were seated immediately. Chips and salsa were brought just as our seats settled in our seats. Immediately following that was Santiago. He took our drink orders, which came out very quickly. My husband had the Chili Colorado and I had the Mexican pizza. Both were spot on. We ordered beans and tortillas to go and the yummiest fried ice cream. Oh, the place was full!!! There’s only ever a few cars because it isn’t that big in there. Highly recommend you all stop in here.

I can’t believe I haven’t been here before. From the outside I always assumed (you know what they say about assuming!) that this was just a quick fast food in and out . It’s a full restaurant Inside with a lot of room ! I got the California burrito, and it’s probably the best burrito I have had in a long time ! The green sauce is amazing too. Tried a house margarita and that’s good too. I will definitely be back to try other things. Great food , great service

This is my other favorite Mexican place in town. They have some unique dishes that I absolutely love. My go to item is the quesadilla express. A decent portion and full of flavor. I also love getting their chicarones as an appetizer. They are fresh, hot pork rinds. It is hard to find them still crackling from the fryer. A first for me at a Mexican restaurant, but I’m certainly not complaining. For an extra large appetite, try the Mexico City burrito. It is huge and delicious. The place is small and can get crowded, but I have never had to wait for a seat. Come check it out.

Let me start off by saying the inside is so clean ! The guys working there are awesome and respectful! I could go on and on about the staff but I’m just gonna say THEY ARE WONDERFUL! My husband and I went in for a burrito Mexico City I asked to be cut in half and my food was perfect fresh hot !! We enjoyed our food !! 100 % recommend this place !! Y ARRIBA MICHOACÁN !!!!

We were initially seated right under the extremely loud music speaker (we have a 3 year old and a newborn), so we asked to move further away. We were so hungry and overwhelmed (hello, parenthood!) that we didn’t realize we had been sitting without menus or drinks long enough for 2-3 other families to be seated (all with small kids, btw) and waited on. We decided to leave just as a waiter finally came to the table to give us straws for our invisible drinks…the salsa was good, at least!
