Has anyone tried Burning Wok on 5th? : r/tylertx – Reddit

Just tried it last week. Definite improvement over Peking. My only issue is that when I asked to sub noodles for fried rice they said okay but didn’t mention …

I was craving some Chinese food and I particularly wanted to try a place I’ve never had before. I checked my list of new restaurants/places I’ve never visited and settled on the Burning Wok.

I quickly hit up the drive thru and made my way back home. I ordered chicken lo mein with no veggies, fried chicken dumplings, and a single chicken egg roll.

For the price and the amount of food I got (specifically the chicken lo mein) I guess I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was. I was pleasantly surprised though. The chicken was tender and the noodles were cooked just right. All together they had a great flavor and I didn’t even have to add soy sauce. I ate quite a bit and it looks like I didn’t even put a dent in it. 2 people could easily split that meal for under $10, which is crazy these days.

The chicken dumplings were also delicious!!! They were full of flavor without the need for the dipping sauce. Although I still tried it and found it to be good as well.

The chicken egg roll (spring roll) was a slightly different story. Although it wasn’t bad at all, I thought it was a bit on the smaller side for the $2 price tag. It definitely has the wrapper and size of a typical spring roll.

The food only took 5 minutes from the time I ordered it to the time they handed it to me. The person who took my money and the person who handed me my food were both very friendly.

Overall I’d definitely recommend trying this little spot if you haven’t.

My wife had a dish that was too sweet so we avoided this place for a few months. They sent a menu out and we thought we would try again. Ordered the Kung Pao with beef and was charged 2 dollars extra. When my wife asked about the charge the cashier, she was told that is the way they do it. I attached the flyer that was mailed out and it only says 2 extra for mixed meat or shrimp. Otherwise the food is tasteless. The veggies were fresh, food was hot, and looked good. But after being charged 2 dollars for mystery reason we will not be back.

Crab Rangoon is mainly just deep-fried with very little inside. The meat and broccoli weren’t that impressive; the beef was a bit tough, though it was okay overall. I don’t think I’ll be returning.

Impressive takeout presentation! Came with everything we asked for and a reusable bag. Good sized portions and flavorful fresh food. We ordered the orange chicken, lo mein, and chicken fried rice. We enjoyed and ate all of it. Great for a fast drive thru service.

Got a pamphlet outside our door and wanted to give it a shot. Reading the reviews really didn’t help but we wanted to try it anyway. And I must say that this is not that great. The hot and sour soup was hot but just didnt have that umami sour taste. We also ordered the tofu strip bean and the sesame chicken and they were not what we expected at all. One of the few times where the picture and the actual food were not how we thought it would be. The tofu strip was not great at all, it somehow came out as a soup with how much sauce/water? was underneath. The sesame chicken was fine. All in all we gave it a shot.

The most horrid Chinese food in Tyler! Ordered the mongolian beef and got mostly onions with a super sweet brown sauce, not spicy at all. Also got the chicken wonton soup and got two chicken wontons dumplings in it with about a tap of chicken in each wonton dumpling. The broth was mainly soy sauce. So much soy sauce that I swear they warmed up soy sauce and threw in the dumplings.

What else can I say but amazing!! The food came out hot and fresh, the chicken screwers were the best I’ve ever had and the place is so clean. This is the best Chinese food in town. If you have any doubts at least try it once you will keep coming back I promise.

Drive thru was fast and kung pao chicken delicious plentiful and piping hot. Enough for several meals for me. Lomein and fried rice both tasty!! Very excellent value! Heavy on sauce which is delicious but may need for moist leftovers.

I enjoy the food here and you get good portions. And my favorite part? You can use the drive through and take the food home when you don’t feel social. Lol

We decided to stop there today 12/30/2024 and let me tell you…. The customer service was awesome the food was fresh and hot, and you get your money worth. The customers who dine in there today we all had to get to- go-plates. If anyone gets the chance… give this place a try.
