We went yesterday and will never go back. Having been a server in the past I have a tendency to accept apologies for the kitchen from the server as gospel, but this particular server kept blaming customers for their orders not being prepared properly (obviously the same server others have eluded to, very brassy and bossy).
We loved the calamari that the original owners offered, so when we received an order that was rubbery and still had the membranes (that look and feel like umbilical cords) attached I asked the server to ask the chef if they had changed vendors. I did not ask to return the dish, although I would later regret my failure to return the appetizer.
When my husband ordered the chicken fried steak dinner the server actually told him not to continue, that she knew what he wanted. Unfortunately, she didn’t read minds therefore his salad came with ranch dressing rather than the “house” or “Italian” that he would have ordered if he had not been told to be quiet!
I asked for the Greek combo which was delivered with my husband’s dinner. Unfortunately, along with his “vegetable”, which turned out to be canned corn straight from the can with it’s water, came a lovely black hair, right in the bowl with the corn.
His chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were completely covered with a disgusting thick white gravy. Once he spotted the hair in the corn he lost his appetite. I asked for a to-go box for my “Combo”, which contained a substitution for one the main “Greek combo” items described on the menu. I asked for the to-go box because I did not want to eat while my husband could not. The substitution in my “combo” was a dolmade, which is obviously not a substitute for an entree, even as part of a “combo”. The server never asked if a substitution was acceptable.
I ended up eating the spanakopita, dolmade and some of the appetizer (calamari). As soon as we returned home I was very nauseated and “lost” $26.00 worth of “food”. My husband had failed to inform me how insulted he was by the server dismissing him when he was attempting to order his meal, so I actually tipped her over 20%!!! I gave her the benefit of the doubt until I got home and heard the rest of his story.
When I was paying the bill I asked if it was slow because of the “kids being out of school?”. The server informed me that “it is always slow here”. Obviously, the high school students were no longer queuing up at the door. The food and service has to be pretty bad if the high school students refuse to spend their dollars in the establishment. Again, so sad. I asked if the Greek woman was still the owner and was told “I cannot discuss that ma’am. I am only a waitress and I only do my job. It pays the bills and I have no other knowledge.” The one bit of advise that the server did pass on to me may have been the most telling. She told me “I have been a waitress long enough to know you should only eat at home”. Fairly telling I will have to say, enough said.
