We’ll be back!! ❤️
Onto the food, yes it’s higher in price than other areas but I would expect that in the location. The starters were average at best, we had crispy sea bass (I think) and pork skewers. Really not the best start to the meal. The mains I’m pleased to say we’re a lot better. The steak, marinaded egg yolk and rice were perfectly cooked and my red curry was one of the best I’ve tasted. The pork and pineapple cooked perfectly.
Although the staff were welcoming downstairs, I felt the service was a little cold at times and they cleared our main courses far too quick.
The main courses made up for the negatives but I would not return.
The menu highlights the distinct flavors of Thailand’s eastern regions. The wagyu beef with buttered fried rice is absolutely magnificent, and the ceviche has a wonderfully fresh, tangy kick. Deep-fried prawns with tamarind sauce are a must-order — perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The chicken tom yum is rich and aromatic, exactly as it should be.
What sets Burapa apart is the consistency — every visit delivers the same high-quality, fresh ingredients and perfectly executed cooking. Service is attentive and warm, and the atmosphere is truly special. A fantastic find on Sukhumvit 11 — highly recommended for anyone who loves bold, authentic Thai flavors!
As a Thai person who loves Thai food, I can say this restaurant truly hits the spot. The flavors are authentic, bold, and beautifully presented. It’s exactly the kind of food I personally enjoy.
BUT! A spicy warning:
Even if you ask for “mild,” the food here is still quite spicy — at least by international standards.
If you can’t handle chili at all, I highly recommend avoiding dishes with chili entirely, because even their “less spicy” is still pretty spicy.
On the other hand, if you love spicy food — go ahead and order freely! You’ll be in heaven.
My top recommendations:
• The grilled beef – so tender and flavorful.
• The grilled squid – a must-order! Seriously, don’t miss it.
Honestly, every dish we tried was excellent. No wonder they’ve earned a Michelin star — it’s well-deserved!
The atmosphere is elegant and classic, with a unique interior that feels like dining on an old-fashioned train.
Staff were incredibly helpful — we were overwhelmed by the menu at first, but they guided us through with great suggestions.
Parking is available right next to the restaurant, which is super convenient.
Prices are on the higher side , but considering the quality, service, and special experience, I’d say it’s worth it — especially for a special occasion.
The prawn with papaya salad was super unique and memorable. Never had papaya salad served this way.
The soft shell crab was well fried, not too oily but nothing much to rave about
The beef with rice was flavorful. The rice was fried in beef fat giving a punch and the beef was medium rare to perfection.
The beef curry was also different from the usual. The spices used made it unique and delightful.
The grilled pork was well marinated with a sauce that was so good. I can’t make out what it’s made of but it really complimented the dish.
Dessert ordered was their speciality. Another never tried nor common found. We enjoyed the shredded coconut, mixed with coconut sugar and peanuts on top of rice pudding.
Burapa offers more than just a meal – it’s a complete sensory experience that transports you to the golden age of luxury travel. The moment you step into their beautifully appointed train car dining room, you’re immersed in an atmosphere of vintage elegance that perfectly complements their exceptional Eastern Thai cuisine.
Ambiance & Setting:
The restored train car interior is absolutely breathtaking. Rich burgundy leather banquettes, warm wood paneling, elegant table lamps, and those gorgeous purple curtains create an intimate, sophisticated atmosphere. The attention to detail is remarkable – from the vintage suitcases displayed overhead to the classic table settings with blue and white china. It feels like dining aboard the Orient Express.
Food Quality:
The Eastern Thai cuisine here is outstanding. Every dish we tried showcased authentic flavors and beautiful presentation. The grilled beef dish was perfectly cooked with a beautiful char and vibrant accompaniments including what appeared to be a perfectly runny egg yolk. The variety of dishes, from the aromatic curries to the fresh vegetable preparations, demonstrated the kitchen’s expertise in balancing the complex flavors that make Eastern Thai cuisine so special.
Service & Experience:
The unique setting makes this perfect for special occasions or when you want to impress someone. The intimate booth seating and romantic lighting create an ideal atmosphere for date nights or celebrations.
Overall:
Burapa successfully combines exceptional Eastern Thai cuisine with one of the most unique dining atmospheres I’ve experienced. It’s not just dinner – it’s an adventure. The combination of authentic flavors, impeccable presentation, and that incredible train car setting makes this a must-visit destination.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for an extraordinary dining experience that engages all the senses!
Note: Reservations likely recommended given the intimate setting and unique concept.
