The food and service was Amazing!! We didn’t know what anything was or how to eat it but the kind waitress and cook made us feel very comfortable and fed us soooo well. The food was delicious, flavorful and very affordable. We ordered the Vegetarian Combo and the Special Tibs (beef). My 11 year old enjoyed it so much she wants to go back and try everything on the menu. We will definitely be doing that.
Here’s where I think things went a little astray. They came back out with the same to go box and said this was the entirety of the special. Which I found a bit confusing as I’ve been to many Ethiopian establishments and never have I seen a 40+ dollar special get smashed into one box like this.
I get home and it’s a bit of a mess honestly, the salad is soggy/wilted and mixed in with everything else, the box is barely holding everything they randomly threw in there, I only received one extra side of injera as well which I found odd as specials like this are meant to feed multiple people, or at least from experience they are, and on top of all this it is definitely not double the amount of food as the asa/special tibs on their own. If I’m paying double the price, one would assume that the meal is double the size.
It seems as if they just threw a portion of the special tibs into the already constructed asa tibs to go box they made and called it a day and happily charged me double the price. I even called the establishment after the fact to verify if there was a misunderstanding, they said no. This is how it’s supposed to be. In this case the special should MAYBE be 30ish dollars. You don’t charge double the price and offer maybe 1/3 more food.
Abeba just down the road offers their own special with easily double the amount of food offered here for the same exact price (3 sides of injera including the injera the food is served on, a whole box full of wats and a whole box full of tibs)
This was my first time here, and the restaurant is newly established. So maybe this was just an misunderstanding. But I don’t think their special should be advertised at anywhere NEAR the price they are asking for it.
They seemed very friendly, and I hope the rectify this issue as I’m not going to be the only one severely dissatisfied with this special they offer. I essentially feel like I handed them 20 bucks for a side of special tibs with an order of asa tibs. I’m usually not one to complain and write reviews but this one kinda blew my mind.
