I’ve been hearing about this place for a while and finally went in today for lunch. I went at an off time, just after lunch so I could see how things go in the down time. The place was clean, and we got smiles and a conversation as soon as we walked in from Jen. She was very helpful, gave us samples of some of the taps and told us to have a seat, if we needed, to take in the whole menu, which was extensive! We landed on a 3 meat trio and a couple of taps. We got pulled pork, brisket and chicken, beans and Mac & cheese. We didn’t wait too long and it came out fresh and hot! We got a sampling of all their sauces and. I prefer the spicy BBQ, but they were all good. The Carolina sauce was surprisingly what a Carolina sauce should be like, but a bit better! We were pleasantly pleased with our food and Jen came by a few times to make sure we were good. A great conversationalist, we chatted and enjoyed our food. It was a super hot day, but nice & cool inside. Lots of screens for games, a group section for large parties and a little video game area with foosball, darts and some arcade games made it a well balanced place. Overall, the food was good, atmosphere was good and we will definitely be back. No table service from a server, but they came by to make sure we had all we needed. A good experience for sure.

Bull Pen BBQ in Santa Clarita is the kind of place that restores your faith in the ancient, smoke-filled religion of proper barbecue.

The brisket arrives like it’s been through a long, honorable journey in the pit — smoky, tender, and sliced thick enough to remind you that patience still exists in this world.

The BBQ chicken is a sticky, glorious mess in the best possible way, lacquered in sauce and cooked just right so every bite lands somewhere between sweet, smoky, and mildly addictive.

Then there’s the mac and cheese, a dangerously creamy side dish that has no business being this good but somehow steals the spotlight anyway.

Add a proper pint of Guinness on tap and suddenly the whole thing feels less like lunch and more like a small but meaningful victory.

The service seals the deal — fast, friendly, and refreshingly human in a world of robotic takeout counters.

In short, Bull Pen BBQ isn’t trying to reinvent barbecue. They’re just doing it right, which these days feels like a minor miracle

Soooo Help me to decide:
Their beef brisket is wonderfully succulent, tender, flavorful
Their tri-tip is also wonderfully succulent, tender, flavorful.

Y’all go try both and tell me your vote. I’m torn because I love both. Let me know your Vote so i can give 5 stars for food. I’m at 4 because I Can’t decide. I neeeed your help folks.

Great place to watch the games and the staff are very nice. The food was good. Only complaint was the baked beans are more like a spicy chili bean with a dash of sweet. They should mention that on the menu. not really what I’m used to for baked beans

I don’t understand this place. The house is nice enough, but the bar isn’t a bar. You can’t order while sitting at it. The food is pretty awful. It all tastes like steamed cafeteria food. The brisket is closer to pot roast, and the pulled pork was oddly cold. Everything felt like leftovers.

Before I wrote this review, I decided to read previous reviews to see what others said, as well as to read how the owner(s) responded to reviews.

What I find disappointing is that several previous reviews echoed sentiments from my visit. Unfortunately, the pattern I saw in terms of the owner(s) response was akin to “We’re looking into this and take feedback seriously, and we will make changes.”

I wonder if the owner(s) have taken customers’ reviews seriously, and I say this because reviews from over two months ago reflect what I experienced, which consists of the following:

1) The brisket had no sauce, was relatively dry, and was closer to roast beef than brisket (I was VERY disappointed!). So much potential, but it was just horrible, i.e., no sauce, cool temperature. Who in the world likes cold meat? I DON’T!

2) Ordering a beer from my table was not possible, so I ordered it with my meal at the counter. This was VERY odd to me, so I just thought the place was understaffed. I was wrong: I saw about 6 people, but I only saw two people taking food to tables. It seems to me they would probably sell more beer if people could order it from their tables.

3) Overall, I was REALLY hoping I would enjoy this place because it’s close to where I live, and I have been looking for a spot that would be my regular go-to place. Unfortunately, unless the owner(s) address the issues noted above, as well as those in otehr reviews, they will not get my business again. This is VERY unfortunate because the place has so much potential!

4) I hope the owner(s) will actually pay attention to reviews, but most importantly ACT on those reviews instead of thanking peope for feedback and telling them you’re “looking into it.” Customers don’t want promises. They want action.

Sadly,
Dr. B.

Unfortunately we did not get a chance to eat the food here. When we showed up there were a few people in line. A lady came by which I assume is the owner and told us to all be seated and she will call us back up when it’s time to order. She then told the cashier not to help anyone after the order he was taking. We all sat down. The next person that was in line never got called up and decided to leave. We also left. I understand there are pressures of opening a new resturant. Sadly we didn’t get to try this place and me and my friends have a bad taste in our months on returning.

Very inviting atmosphere, fun sports vibe and great TVs and projectors make for watching games a pleasant experience. More family resturant than bar, everything is pay upfront and self seating, limited service after seated.

Great beer selection, and fresh as well. Unfortunately the food was just..ok. the baked beans were more a soup than anything that’s been inside an oven. The brisket and ribs came with 0 sauce, and were pretty bland. The Ribs were better than the brisket however. There is no BBQ sauce on the table, you must request it special and it comes in a tiny to go cup. And..as far as I know there was only 1 option.

If you are expecting a gourmet Famous Dave’s experience this is not the place to go. This is more a budget, come have some drinks with the boys and watch a game with some appetizers type place. If you get the BBQ remember to ask for sauce.

Also…the menu is too busy.

Will come back in a few months to try again as this place is new.

I am going to preface this review with two points: One, I understand that this is a difficult economic time for small businesses like restaurants. Two, I also understand that staffing a restaurant fully can be challenging. With that being said, my dining experience tonight at Bullpen BBQ and taphouse was abysmally bad and the restaurant wasn’t even half full of customers.

My family’s order (2 people) came to almost $60. We ordered at the counter and were given a table tag. It took 25 minutes for the cashier/bartender to pour the one beer that I ordered. My son was given a glass to get his own drink at the soda fountain.

After waiting 45 minutes, our food was brought to the table. The garlic butter on our order of garlic fries had already congealed, making most of the fries soggy. I ordered the special house chili with beans and brisket on top. The chili was lukewarm and bland. Instead of the brisket I ordered, the chili was topped with tri-tip.

I think that working with a much smaller food menu would enable the pit master/chef and kitchen staff to focus on making a few really good BBQ items that could easily and quickly get assembled and served.

With lots of games available for kids to play, this restaurant seems to market itself as a great place for families. However, you can’t have excessive wait times and poor quality food and achieve that objective.
