A little confusing with how and where to park. Lines for takeout makes it difficult to get seated. The food! Absolutely wonderful! Ribs perfectly cooked with sauce and lots of meat! Thick tasty chicken! Brisket yum! Plenty of sides. World’s best banana pudding!!!

The first place I ate when I moved to Durham in 2005 was Bullock’s. I took the grandsons there for lunch today and had the same Family Style AYCE of chopped pork, fried chicken, coleslaw, fries, green beans, hush puppies, and world class Brunswick stew that I enjoyed 21 years ago. It tasted the same, the restaurant is unchanged, and the crowds are still showing up.
The hostess, server, and cashier fawned over the little boys, who decided to eat only the admittedly delicious mac and cheese. The ladies insisted on packing up the bowls full of leftovers for me to take home and brought the boys a fresh refill of the mac and cheese for the road. They were busy, but made us feel like we were the only customers they were attending to (one of the little guys declared them to be “lovely.”)
I would choose the leftovers I just reheated over what most restaurants serve fresh, plus I still was smiling thinking about how well we were treated, how reasonable the price was, and how comforting it is that Bullock’s has not chased trends, un-Southerned itself, cut corners, or dialed back on good old country service. It has been around for almost 85 years for good reason.

Husband has been coming here since he was a college kid. I canNOT imagine a more perfect place for a bunch of hungry college boys when I was at WF he brought this over and now we bring our kids when we come back in town once a year. They’re obsessed and won’t stop talking about bullocks until we come back haha. It’s always our first stop after we land. We order family style and it’s the best. The service is also amazing – they make you feel like you’re family.

The food here is always so good! No matter what you get, you really can’t go wrong.
Their Brunswick stew is about the best you’ll find anywhere. Chicken is fried perfectly, and the sides are tasty.
The staff is always nice and keeps your drinks full.
CASH ONLY!! No checks or cards.

91 sanitation grade. If you have been in business this long you should know how to keep food safe and clean. Food is not as good as it use to be. Better places to spend your money.

Bullock’s has been a tradition passed down through my family for years now. We’re not in the area frequently, but this is the place we go when we are! Definitely recommend checking this place out.
The real way to go is get the family style dinner with a large group, and you’d still have plenty of food to bring home. Tonight we didn’t want leftovers so we go individual meals and the brisket was the choice. Don’t recommend the green beans. Way overcooked with no flavor. The chicken, the Brunswick stew, the baked beans, is flavor you can’t get anywhere else. Another bonus: they start you with hushpuppies. Great restaurant to stop at if you’re hungry and need something to start before your meal. One critic; they used to make the sweet butter but now they use premade. Miss a bit of the authenticity.
Service was phenomenal! Waitress never let our drinks empty, and was very friendly. Typical experience is friendly accommodating staff. They allow substitutes for most of their combos as well.
Overall, good BBQ!!

Ordered a vegetable plate to go this afternoon. What a ripoff from last to go order. They are using small plastic containers which hold approximately 1/3 cup. These containers were used for slaw and butter beans. A larger plastic container used for mash potatoes. Also a small container of gravy included which I had relayed no gravy wanted.
Last to go order small cardboard trays were used, except slaw was in larger containers like mash potatoes today. Their prices vs quantity now is not worth it. I will not be placing a order to go ever again.

One of the best barbecue places in Durham! We had fried chicken, pulled pork, Brunswick stew and they were all delicious. Their vegetables/sides were equally tasty! Highly recommend the fried okra. Their deviled eggs, butter beans, and cole slaw were also good.

It’s popular, I was there at opening and the tables filled quickly. I ordered the ribs and they were tender but seemed to have been in a steam tray or something so they lacked that grilled quality.

Stopped here with the family as it was recommended. Huge portions for sure. There were four of us and we got the sliced pork and fried chicken, the chopped pork (pictured), the pulled pork and the bbq chicken breast (pictured). We know NC bbq is vinegar based but even so, it was almost overpowering on the vinegar taste and the chopped pork was really finely chopped. The fried chicken was very good. The sides were all pretty good – we got mac n cheese, mac salad, coleslaw, hush puppies, fried okra, baked beans, and corn. Excellent service and we had leftovers so all in all a good experience.
