Reviews
When we first walked in, no one greeted us or acknowledged our presence. The staff continued doing their own tasks without any eye contact or welcome. After waiting, we assumed we could seat ourselves. Only then were we redirected to another table — which would have been completely fine — but instead of simply guiding us, we were lectured about how “in America you must wait to be seated,” in a condescending tone. It felt like we were being scolded, even though no one had initially assisted us.
The situation with the aprons was even more uncomfortable. I asked for three aprons. Instead of simply providing them, the server looked the other two guests up and down and asked, “Why?” I asked why that question was necessary, and the response was, “You probably don’t need them,” said in an irritated tone before reluctantly handing them over. It felt judgmental and unnecessary. No customer should have to justify asking for basic items.
The most shocking part was the tipping situation. Because of the service, we chose not to leave a tip. We understand tipping is customary in the U.S., but tipping is based on service quality. Instead of respecting our decision, we were lectured again about American tipping culture and repeatedly pressured to add one. Tipping should never be forced or demanded.
As we were leaving, staff members loudly commented within earshot, questioning whether asking “why” about the aprons was wrong. That public remark was humiliating and deeply unprofessional.
Additionally, while we were still sitting at the table, we were presented with the check and told, “You’re done eating, so we can clear this, right?” which felt rushed and dismissive.
We are Korean customers who dined at a Korean restaurant, and being treated this way by our own community made the experience even more disappointing.
Hospitality should make guests feel welcome — not judged, lectured, or pressured.
We will not be returning.
I’m uncertain if they got new owners but the last time I was here about a year ago I bought $10 worth of Kim chi for my mother in law. When she opened it there was a fly in it. I immediately brought it back the next day and was refunded the money. I saw them take Kim chi from a giant white bucket into the smaller container they sold it to me so I’m not sure if they trashed it or kept it to serve to future customer. I just stayed away for a long time to be safe until today. I got to the restaurant around 7:10pm. The place closed at 8pm. Right away we felt very rushed to order immediately after seating. We are a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids) but were only brought two waters, and two sets of utensils. After we ordered two entrees, I asked for four bowls of rice and the waitress told us that we only get two rice bowls since we ordered only two entrees, but honestly, it’s rice, if we have to pay more, so what? Just let us know it’s an extra charge and move on. They like expected us to share two small rice bowls between the two of us?! I have never experienced a Korean place where asking for white rice was such a big deal to the restaurant that they make a deal about it! Also, the banchans they bring out was just four plates?! The Korean places I go to there’s a plethora of side dishes and they give plenty of refills. When we asked for refills the same waitress told us they ran out because they’re closing soon. It was 7:50pm. Seeing that I went ahead and paid so they can close the register to be polite. There were about 6 tables when we got there and only 3 left at this time so it’s not like we are the only table left. Surprised, the waitress came back and brought three side dishes, one of which was pickled veggies that we didn’t even get the first time! Already annoyed with this waitress I debated whether I should tip her but decided to tip her $3 for $37 of food where I was charged $3 for rice. I knew I would get charged for it when she made a big deal about it but she should have said that there is a charge but whatever, it’s $3. Then I packed up the food so we can finish eating at home and while my husband was holding the plate for me to scoop the food making sure not to get any of the sauce because I know it’ll spill in the car or on us. The same rude waitress walked up and took the plate and pour it into our to go box sauce included and it spilled everywhere and touched the rest of our food. Then she starts reaching for what we thought was the gochujang bottle so my husband handed it to her but she wanted the check. She grabbed it and right away started saying, “that’s it? You give tip 3 dollars?” She took her pen and pointed to where the suggested tip was that said something like $7.80 and I gave her this raised eyebrow look and said, “yes that is what I give you.” And she continues to mutter something like this is your total and continues to point to the suggested tip in broken English that I could not understand. I got up and we all walk away since my husband had spilled the sauce that lady poured into our container on himself. We were shocked by what she said and honestly, I wished I had grabbed the pen and marked out the tip to give her zero $. I will never come back here and looking at the reviews recently someone complained about an aggressive waitress and I am certain it is the same one.
The quality of the food? Way too salty and the squid was overcooked. I didn’t say anything thinking it was me but when my husband said, “is it me or the food is not good,” and the food is just not good. For the people that think this place is good, do yourself a favor and go to OK Ko-Mart and eat at the Korean restaurant inside called Hawaiian Bar-B-Q and you will never look back.
