A shell of it’s former self after the reboot. Gone from being a great reflection of Milledgeville’s uniqueness to just another smash burger joint.

I understand that such a complex menu was probably bad for the bottom line of the restaurant, however they’ve gutted it to its core. Gone are the amazing chickerrones and the delicious quesadillas, with just a smash burger and fries to take it’s place. I went to take some friends here, as I have done multiple times the last few years I’ve lived here. I was heartbroken when I was handed the new menu. I paid for my drink and left and went somewhere else in milledgeville that has a semblance of personality left.

I recently visited Buffington’s at 120 W Hancock St, in Milledgeville, GA for the 2025 Burger Week. The burger for this year was a very good one. Maybe the best I have had there for burger week. I sat at the bar and was quickly greeted and my drink order taken. My burger came out later and it was very good. I have been there many times and always enjoy my times there.

The verdict is in: the switch to Smash Burgers is a total game-changer. While the old menu featured thick patties that were often dry and tasteless, the new preparation has completely elevated the quality. These burgers are moist, fresh, and truly incredible—I’ve visited over a dozen times now, and the food is great every single time. The Potato Bun is STELLAR.

However, it feels like the “smash” concept was taken a bit too literally with the menu itself. The selection has been smashed down to the bare essentials, and the lack of variety seems to be hurting business; the house is rarely busy unless there’s an event. The new boozy milkshakes are a fantastic addition, but the menu needs a bit more depth to help people get past the “change” factor.

On the bright side, the restaurant is spotlessly clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. I do miss the old soul of the building—specifically the iconic dragon and artwork—but the new management is 100% capable of making the necessary adjustments to make Buffington’s THE place in Milledgeville again.

I visited Buffingtons again about 5 days ago, eager to try out the new menu. I found the ambiance almost unchanged , but the menu trimmed drastically.
It was time for Buffington’s to have a menu review. Their offerings were varied and enticing, but there is no way that menu was cost-efficient. They offered too many choices for that. They offered too many choices that were not featured on every other menu you see. Too many choices that made the restaurant stand out as an obvious choice, above the many boring restaurants that it might otherwise have been.
Now, under new/old management they have the most boring menu in Milledgeville. It appears they have embraced the T-Rump management style of improvement through destruction. I suppose the idea is to drive away all customers and go into bankruptcy in order to make some money.
There is now no reason to visit Buffingtons. The menu resembles that of any high school football snack bar. Their beer selection is now as generic as it comes, unlike when they offered choices that were different enough to make me want to visit there, instead of any other burger joint, or the restaurant across the street or down the block.
Congrtaulations: You have created a white bread restaurant out of one that offered so much promise.

My one and only visit was several weeks ago on a Thursday evening at 6. Because there were only people at the bar and at the open windows there was no wait to seat our party of three. Our waiter seemed more interested in visiting with friends at the bar area than keeping an eye on us and our needs. I personally had the chicken tenders basket and if you like larger pieces of chicken that are very moist you might like them. I however, like a drier meat.

Great burgers, they actually won an award for them with great sides. Salads, sandwiches and other plates are also available. Nice friendly bar that served meals during the day and at night. Great selection of beers and many specialty mixed drinks. Live dinner music starts at 6 on Fridays and bar music on Saturday starting around 10. Great place to have a few drinks with your friends.

In town for Deep Roots, but needed a place to watch the Jackets take on Duke. The staff was fun and engaging, and kept the drinks flowing for all. Was floored with the quality of the food…the smashburger was one of the best I have ever had – seasoned and cooked to perfection. Will without a doubt visit again any time we are in Milledgeville!

They don’t have regular burgers just smashed which is not what we went there for. A smashed burger is nothing more than a small piece of meat made to look like a regular burger. We will go back when they return to regular burgers.

Wing flavors were really weak. Like sauce was thin and lacked flavor completely. I had the hot honey. It was neither hot nor sweet.
But the drinks were excellent!! The Green Tea and Unicorn Water were really good. And the queso fries were a good surprise! The prices were good. I’d come back for sure.
