The Bud Bay Cafe located near Mud Bay in Olympia is right by the marinas and it is so much more than a cafe.

I love the atmosphere and the location. First of all. Being by the water is amazing for me.

We expected to order a simple salad and grilled chicken for lunch until they brought out the fresh specials which were amazing and five star restaurant quality. I ordered halibut and lobster tail wrapped in phyllo dough with a wild rice pilaf and my husband ordered king crab legs with the same sides. We also got the apple tart. All were on the fresh menu. The flavors were fresh and incredibly cooked to order. This is one of my new favorite places to stop by anytime we’re in this area.

I shouldn’t forget the service, everyone is very nice and friendly and make sure that you’re happy with your order.

My wife and I had such a fantastic time at Budd Bay Café right on the Percival Landing waterfront in Olympia, WA. The location is unbeatable—with breathtaking views of Budd Bay, the marina, sailboats, and the sunset painting everything golden. We timed it perfectly for the Sunset Dinner combo, and it was an absolute highlight!
The Sunset Dinner is this amazing three-course special with huge, generous portions of fresh, delicious Northwest seafood and classics. We were so full and happy—everything tasted great, from the appetizers to the mains. The food was flavorful, well-prepared, and just what we wanted for a cozy date night.
Service was top-notch too: our server was super friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and made sure everything was timed perfectly. The whole vibe felt welcoming and relaxed.
After dinner, we stepped out and walked along the harbor docks and boardwalk at Percival Landing. It was such a nice night—the air was perfect, the lights on the water were sparkling, and it felt so peaceful and romantic strolling hand-in-hand with those stunning bay views.
If you’re searching for romantic waterfront dining in Olympia, fresh seafood restaurants Olympia WA, or a spot with incredible sunset views and easy access to a scenic harbor walk, Budd Bay Café is the place! We’ve already recommended it to friends and can’t wait to return—maybe catch another sunset dinner soon.
5 stars, no question—pure magic! ️ ‍♂️

Wandered in looking for something to eat while I waited for my friend to get off work. Sat at the bar and ordered a Lavender French 75 to start while I ordered my Sunset Dinner of fried artichoke hearts, rajun cajun salmon cesar salad, and NY style cheese cake. After I finished my Lavender French, I asked for something Apple and sour and Isaiah did not disappoint with an apple bourbon sour.
The fried artichoke hearts are crispy and flavorful. The salmon was slightly sweet, not too fishy and paired well with the candied pecans that topped the cesar salad. I was unable to finish the salad and had to take it to go, as well as my cheesecake. My cheesecake will make a wonderful midnight snack as it looks delicious.
Let’s not forget the beautiful view as well.

I’ve been here a few times. The food is really good. It has changed some since my first visit, but rhe food is really good. The server we had was really attentive, patient, and friendly. A great place to check out if you enjoy seafood.

Nice place for lunch right on the dock of downtown Olympia. The servers are always polite and consistent. We tried the seafood salad and loved that the first time, second time we stopped in it tasted sweeter and didn’t look this gorgeous. I love the crab cakes. I didn’t like seafood platter and I thought butternut squash pasta was just okay.

We arrived at 4:00, the perfect time for Happy Hour. Not intentional, but fortunate. I enjoyed the fantastic fried artichoke hearts, even eating the arugula underneath. Next was the tuna burger sandwich. Perfectly cooked, and pink inside. So thick! Knife and fork sandwich. My companion enjoyed the award-winning ( as always ) clam chowder – delicious. Finishing with the Seafood Cobb Salad. Generous amounts of crab and shrimp – and olives :-). Really beautiful, fun place to eat.

Budd Bay used to be our favorite restaurant in Olympia and we were regulars. We loved the clams, signature halibut, creative specials and awesome desserts. I don’t know what changed but the last two experiences were abysmal. Signature halibut cooked so dry it had a rubbery skin. No seasoning whatsoever. No sauce. Special appetizer skewer – so overcooked the scallops and shrimp cracked and the breading was burnt. Clam chowder was old and thick like glue. The waiter looked at it and said, “That doesn’t look right. I need to go back there and add some water.” The icing on the cake, our daughter ordered a steak and it was like leather and all fat. So disappointing and the service was bad too. We won’t return and this makes us sad. I emailed the manager to share our experience and I got no reply.

If you like restaurants on the water front this one is definitely a place to try. Had a variety menu with lots to choose from.

Budd Bay was incredible! We went for a special occasion and the experience here was perfect! The food was utterly delicious, the chowder alone something I’d return for (get sherry on top!). The Dungeness crab cakes were so tasty and addictive. But what made our experience so great was the helpful, friendly staff! Nick was so attentive and resolved a menu issue we had flawlessly. We will be returning!

Great food and great service. We went on valentines and despite it being very busy, the service was very fast. The food was great, and the dessert was even better!!! If it’s not dark, the views from the restaurant are beautiful!
