One of the best experiences I have had in ages. The bowl of green chili is seriously the best I’ve ever had. I always have had an idea of what this dish should be every time I come through New Mexico. This was as close to that platonic ideal as I could possibly imagine. I would drive a long way just to get another bowl of that.
We also got the prime rib, green Chile loaded fries. These too were just outstanding. The prime rib was so incredibly flavorful.
The portion sizes were quite generous as well.
The atmosphere was perfect, with live music and locals dancing. I felt like I had stepped back in time. Service was impeccable. Just a wonderful experience all around.
I am including pictures of the attached opera house. Such an amazing piece of old west Americana!

We arrived about 3:15pm. We were welcomed warmly and told to sit anywhere there in front. The waitress took our drink order and told us they don’t take food orders until 4pm. There were only about 7 or 8 tables in the front and they filled up quickly. The barstools were full. We ordered the 62.00 , 16 oz. NY Strip to split and an appetizer and salad. It was a bit noisy so when she brought out 2 plates with steaks and baked potatoes I thought she misunderstood and didn’t want to be “that person” so we just decided OK we will get to go boxes because the steaks are huge! A few minutes later she came back with the one we ordered to split but too late now. So we evidently received someone else’s order. Anyway, the steaks were delicious, baked potatoes should have been cooked a little longer, the Mediterranean slaw was really good and we had another meal at home with the to go boxes. A little pricey for the 2 steaks but there were less expensive options on the menu. Also no bread with the meal. Nice ambiance. You would not expect from the rugged saloon look from the outside.

This place is not only a great place to eat with exceptional food. It has a great bar. But that is not all. This place has hung onto its history and preserved it as best as it can with the open fire place in the bar area . Vintage decor and the old opera house that is still used to this day for events. Whether you are in the mood for food or a walk through history or both I would suggest taking a little trip to this location as words cannot describe the atmosphere.

First, the atmosphere is awesome, second the staff is super friendly and very attentive, and third food is off the hook. When you serve quality it speaks for itself, and this historic gem is well worth the money and the time. My hats off to the staff and the chefs who prepared our meal! It was my wife’s birthday and the chocolate cake she was given was exceptional! All around one of the best places I have ever been food, staff, and ambience wise! My family has been in the food industry for over 50 years! My family has been in magazines and I have a family member who is a BBQ pistmaster champion (On TV). I come from a long line of cooks/chuck wagon cooks/chefs and pitmasters. I like how Buckhorn keeps it simple, and sometimes that is the best! Hats off to the entire Buckhorn staff! I will be telling friends and I will return myself! Thank you and the wonderful staff for being friendly and making us feel welcomed! – The Santana Family

The manager, Katie waited on us and we never wanted for anything. We ordered the prime rib and it was cooked to perfection. Prices were moderate/good and drinks were reasonable. The restaurant and Opera House is a hoot and a colorful history that isn’t surprising considering Silver City’s wild past

When I called for reservations, the hostess at first reacted like there was no room but she was not very clear. She finally put me on hold and spoke with someone. When she came back she did they had space and took my reservation.
When arriving there was a couple ahead of us that did not have a reservation. They were seated before us but the wait was only a few minutes after them and then we were seated.
Our server was somewhat attentive. We waited for a while for just waters. We were at the restaurant for an hour before our food was brought out.
Overall, the live music and the atmosphere made up for the minor issues.

I have been here a few other times in the past. My family started with drinks in the bar then went to the dining area for dinner. The food is very good, big portions and quite pricey. It’s not somewhere you would want to go often but more on special occasions. I suggest reservations. It’s also very dark inside so if anybody has issues with sight you may have to help them reading the menu. I’m adding pictures which didn’t really do the food justice.

What an amazing restaurant in the middle of nowhere. About 6.5 miles outside of Silver City, this is what you would expect in a major US city.
The ambience and atmosphere are perfect for a relaxing evening with the soft sounds of a live guitar in the background.
I arrived about 6:15 PM and there were no tables available as a reservation is required well in advance. Who would have thought? There was a seat at the bar, which allowed me to enjoy this true treasure of Americana.
The menu offers an outstanding selection of high end dishes that are well prepared by what must me professionally trained chief.
The Buckhorn salad is an above average house salad at a very reasonable six dollars.
The filet mignon was perfectly seasoned and cooked perfectly rare. It’s nice to enjoy a nicely aged steak that is so well seasoned that you don’t even think about touching it with sauce.
The baked potato and steam broccoli were just as outstanding.
For dessert I had the Crème brûlée. Words do not do it justice. WOW!
I did learn that the executive chef and owner, Thomas moved here from San Francisco about 8 years where he owned several high-end steakhouses. He simply wanted to get away from the rat race that is San Francisco. The winner in this is not Thomas, it’s the entire population of Silver City and the surrounding area!
Thomas was not here tonight. My incredible meal was prepared by Chef Amy and her talented team!
I don’t want to forget the awesome bartenders. The two young ladies were friendly and attentive despite the packed house and all that comes with that…….
Buckhorn Saloon & Opera House is a must try when visiting the Silver City area! I will be back many, many more times….
