We ended up making a dinner reservation for the next day at the insistence of my husband, with the help of friendly gentleman who we assumed was the owner. The classic bistecca was the best I’ve had in the city, and the potatoes were also delicious. For variety, we ordered the cannelloni as well. All the dishes, along with the recommended red wine pairing, were fantastic. If we come back to Florence, we’d definitely love to eat here again.

Recently in Florence and wanted a Florentine Steak. Reviews say this is the place…and they were right. The food and atmosphere is old world Italian. The owner made a great attempt to get me in after being fully reserved. If you’re looking for authentic Italian and atmosphere, this is the place.

The food here is absolutely amazing. Staff are quick paced and food came out fast. Seatings are also comfortable.
The beef tripe is soft and soaked up all the sauces, absolutely delicious. The tomato ribbon pasta is fresh and sweet. The beef is also soft and tender, and the calelloni is very delicious as well. Everything is amazing here. Highly recommended!

Buca Lapi was the food highlight of our visit to Florence. Every element of the experience was excellent. First, the service was stellar from the moment we arrived. Our server, Franca, was extremely knowledgable, friendly, and professional. She helped us choose a wonderful bottle of wine (picture included) and explained the menu in great detail. Next, the food was amazing — we loved the pasta (tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms), chicken cacciatore, and Florentine steak.. Make sure you visit this restaurant when you stay in Florence — you won’t regret it (especially if Franca is your server).

Amazing food, nicest people in all of Florence, authentic beautiful place. I ordered the braised beef with onions and polenta, and it was amazing. The house wine from Chianti is made of Syrah grapes and it goes very well with meat and in general is amazing. They have a chocolate cake for dessert, that you won’t believe it doesn’t contain any sugar, eggs or flour!!
10/10 for everything. Will come back for sure.

My wife and I had Buca Lapi on our must-visit list for our recent trip to Florence. We weren’t disappoionted.

We came for the bistecca, prepared to order the serving for two. Thankfully, our server recommended splitting the single serving. It was still plenty for both of us, and absolutely delicious. People complaining about it being under seasoned need to understand that the meat is traditionally meant to be salted at the table.

We split an order of spinach gnocchi with butter and sage, and had roast potatoes and spinach with garlic and olive oil for the sides with our bistecca. Everything was incredible, and cooked to perfection. I added a half-bottle of the Peppoli chiante for myself. The meringato topped off an absolutely wonderful meal.

The decor was also charming. What you don’t notice in the photos online is the little notes and graffiti on the walls and lampshades. None of it is offensive, and just added to the atmosphere.

We were one of the first diners there that night, and the restaurant filled up quickly so reservations are absolutely necessary. We were there in the off season, so we were able to make reservations the day before.

I am beyond disappointed with my experience here yesterday. We walked in hoping for a nice meal, but we were immediately met with resistance at the door. Despite the fact that there were multiple open tables clearly visible throughout the dining room, the staff insisted they couldn’t seat us.
When I pointed out the available seating, I was given a vague excuse about “reservations” yet other groups who arrived after us without a clear reservation seemed to be accommodated just fine. It felt like they were looking for any reason to turn us away.
The most unsettling part was the vibe we got from the staff. They kept looking us up and down with an air of judgment. My wife is Asian, and given how many empty seats were available while we were being denied service, it’s hard not to feel like the “way we look” played a role in their decision. Whether it was blatant bias or just terrible hospitality, the experience felt targeted and incredibly uncomfortable.
We won’t be coming back to a place that makes its guests feel unwelcome before they even sit down. Save your time and money go somewhere that actually values its customers regardless of their background.

This was a highly recommended restaurant and it lived up to the expectations. The location is in an old wine cellar and the five star service was excellent. We shared the Florentine steak for two and it was a culinary experience. All steaks are cooked rare. Make sure to ask to see the steak on the grill. Makes for a great photo!

We had an amazing meal at Buca Lapi, and our waiter, Giuseppe, made the experience even more memorable. His professionalism and hospitality were exceptional. You can tell he takes pride in his role.

The food was fantastic as well. The gnocchi I ordered literally melted in my mouth, and while we didn’t try their famous steak, my husband thoroughly enjoyed the fresh pappardelle with wild boar.

We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Florence!

This restaurant is a 5 star expirence from start to finish. First off, the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful with romantic lighting and posters all over the walls. The waiters are so professional and kind and the food – it will be the best meal you eat in florence. The steak is so tender with a perfectly seared exterior. The sides of cannelloni beans and mashed potatoes are just divine. This is good food done right! I highly recommend dining here if looking for an upscale experience in Florence for the best steak in the city!
