Delicious Halal Food at Brothers Cafe and Restaurant in Madison, WI
Reviews
I visited Brothers Café Restaurant in Madison and had an amazing experience. The food was fresh, flavorful, and 100% halal. I enjoyed the goat rice (bariis iyo hilib ari) — perfectly cooked and full of taste. The Somali tea (shaah) was smooth and rich, just like home.
The restaurant is clean, Somali-owned, and very welcoming. It has comfortable seating, a TV for entertainment, and even a restroom that’s clean and wheelchair accessible — showing they really care about all customers.
If you want real Somali sambusas, tea, and traditional food, this is the best place to visit in Madison. Highly recommended!
Brothers Café Restaurant – Somali Sambusa & Tea
✅ Halal food
✅ Somali-owned
✅ Family friendly & accessible
✅ Great tea and sambusa
It was not busy at all. He said he was watching a football game and forgot I was sitting there waiting. After a few minutes, he came back and asked me again what my order was. And finally left the restaurant.
I lost a lot of my time and felt ignored. I’m writing this so other customers are aware and I hope the restaurant improves their customer service. Good service is very important.
I think this place has gone a bit downhill (perhaps the experience would be different dining in). If they even answer the phone, there’s a good chance half the menu won’t be available, even their main options. Last several times I’ve ordered carry-out, they’ve messed up my order and the meat is 1) primarily fat or 2) a tiny portion despite the higher price. It’s so unfortunate that their consistency has gone down so much – you never know if you’re gonna get the best plate of food you’ve ever had or something that shouldn’t even be served. I really want them to be successful, so hopefully something changes and there’s better consistency and stronger communication to ensure orders are correct and fair portions of quality meat is served.

Nowhere else in Madison can you find authentic, fresh Somali food. It is excellent food, large servings, incredibly flavorful and you’ll get kind service.
Madison has needed a Somali restaurant for awhile!
My family and I are already regulars; we have tried their goat, chicken suqaar (smaller chunks of chicken with peppers), beef suqaar (smaller cubed beef with peppers) grilled bone-in chicken, their rice and their spaghetti with meat sauce.
All of their meat is incredibly tender and well-seasoned.
The spaghetti could be an entree alone and will make you rethink tomato-based pasta meals.
You’ve gotta try this place out!
The salad was a joke iceberg lettuce three slices of ones onion two peppers and then they seemed surprised that I want to dressing with it
They didn’t have any salt and pepper on the table and it seemed kind of put out that I asked for salt and pepper then they brought it to us in the very little cups of salt and pepper
Service was spotty three people that came in after us got their food before us. And some people got a banana with their meal and some didn’t we didn’t get any. The waiter was not very friendly.
They were out of all diet sodas and the coke that we did get in by the water we’re not very cold.
