The Broadway Oyster Bar is a locally owned and operated establishment and has been for over 35 years. The Oyster Bar is widely regarded as the premier New Orleans’ style restaurant, bar and music venue in the Midwest. Broadway Oyster Bar has been referred to by many as a staple of St. Louis and is a great choice for a relaxing dinner, a celebratory party or an opportunity to dance to a great band. As well known food writer, the late Joe Pollack, once wrote, There is, quite simply, nothing in St. Louis quite like the Broadway Oyster Bar. That line was written over 30 years ago, but it is as true today as it was then. Welcome to the Broadway Oyster Bar Family.

First off, the vibe—unchanged in the best way possible. That gritty, funky, old-school New Orleans soul is still alive and well. The decor is classic, lived-in, and authentic. You walk in and immediately feel like you’ve been dropped somewhere just off Bourbon Street.
Service? On point.
Ashley was behind the bar and greeted me right away. Fast, efficient, professional—exactly what you want when you’re hungry and ready to roll.
Now let’s talk food, because this is where the magic happens:
Shrimp Voodoo – BOOM. Big flavor, perfectly cooked shrimp, rich sauce, no shortcuts.
Uncle Charlie’s Creole Jambalaya – Deep, bold, layered Cajun flavor. This is the kind of dish that tells stories.
Alligator Cheesecake – Yep. You read that right. Unique, savory, and surprisingly addictive. Total wildcard that delivers.
Every single dish was spot on. No misses. No maybes.
By the end of the meal, I wasn’t in St. Louis anymore—I was straight up in New Orleans, beads and brass bands included.
Bottom line:
If you’ve never been, you need to go.
If you have been but it’s been a minute—go back.
Broadway Oyster Bar is still doing it right, still cooking with soul, and still serving food that punches way above its weight.
This place isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience.
The shrimp po’boy is a must! d
Do not pass up the bread pudding! It dosent matter how full you are just get it!!!!!
Tip: watch your step; there are slightly different levels all over, but it just adds to the charm. 🙂 (and the manager will give you a bandaid if you happen to sub your toe like I did) 😉
The only downside was the drink service. Refills were slow, and one person in our group didn’t get his drink until after the food was already out.
Overall though, great food and a cool spot. Would definitely go back. Just hoping the service tightens up a bit.
