My friend and I stopped in to Brightwok Kitchen on State Street for lunch on a trip to visit the Driehaus Decorative Arts Museum, which is close by.

We were greeted by the owner who explained different dishes to us. I ordered the golden curry chicken with coconut milk. (I’m sure I’m not getting the exact name right, but it had golden curry in the title.)

It was excellent! The quality of the chicken was high and the flavors were perfect. Absolutely delicious!

We’ll be back.

I am Celiac, so I have to eat gluten-free and avoid cross contamination. This place was amazing! We got two of the bowls (can’t remember their names) but they were really good. The server was also able to make great recommendations which I always love to see. If you have tried it, this restaurant is like the warm version of Bibibap Asian Grill. Only thing is, it was really really hot in the restaurant so we almost couldn’t sit there. Otherwise worth a try if you’re celiac and so reasonably priced.

Genuinely healthy. Great ingredients, low calorie, freshly made in front of you. They can even stir fry without oil for you if you ask. They’re super transparent about their ingredients and nutrition facts, which is very rare. You can tell they really care about the food they serve, and it’s also super yummy. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get, way better than bowl slop.

I’ve been a regular at Brightwok Bowl for quite some time, but today truly stood out as the best visit yet. A big shoutout to Erik for his exceptional customer service — he went above and beyond to make my experience memorable. His friendly attitude and attention to detail truly make this place special.

My bowl was hot and freshly prepared, which made all the difference. The combination of great taste and excellent service keeps me coming back. Plus, Erik maintains the place impeccably clean, adding to the overall positive atmosphere.

Cheers to Erik for his dedication! I’ll definitely be returning soon. If you’re looking for delicious, fresh food with top-notch service, Brightwok Bowl is the place to go.

I did a carryout order of their egg fried rice with steak after reading some reviews and wanting a quick meal in at my hotel. The rice is mush, the steak seems steamed, the spice I ordered is non-existent, and the whole thing is lacking in flavor. I couldn’t even finish it and I’m bummed.

They have a lot of vegan friendly options which made it appealing and easy for me to build my own bowl. Their bowls follow a similar structure of brown rice as a grain, choice of protein, then topped with veggies and some type of Asian inspired sauce such as a tahini-sesame dressing or their chili oil.

I enjoyed the two tofu bowls that we had here although I found them to be overly saucy and oily. I would suggest requesting to go light on both if you are able. Their tofu was good and I appreciated the many veggie options. Plus their fried plantains were also a nice side to accompany the bowls.

Service here was really friendly and helpful, and even when you dine in, your bowls will be served in takeout containers. This is helpful if you aren’t able to finish your food in one sitting but seems wasteful when you toss it out right afterwards.

SO GOOD. I tried this place my first night in Chicago and went back (delivery) for lunch and dinner the next day too. The sesame bowl could have done with more sauce, but otherwise everything was so good. Local corn is a great addition. I had a BYOB with the cashew sauce, and a golden curry bowl as well. They left off the onions as requested when placing my online order. Can’t wait to come back and have it again

I walked in to the restaurant because I thought it smelled good and this was the best first time experience in a restaurant I’ve ever had. When I told the lady with the ponytail it was my first time she explained how the place worked and also gave me lots of sauces to taste test to see. The african American man with a beanie at the register was very nice as well to me as well and made my foods taste amazing and gave me teriyaki to pour over the top of my bowl. They should both receive raises

I didn’t take any pictures, but this was one of the best meals I had in Chicago! If I lived here, I’d get food here regularly. I got the Healthy Sesame bowl with chicken. It was loaded with veggies and SO GOOD. You can tell its so fresh, the make it right in front of your eyes and in a few minutes you have the most excellent stir fry. I also got the grilled pineapple and it was also great but best went eaten warm right when you get in my opinion.

Overall, I crave this already and will be back when I’m I’m downtown Chicago!
