Bricklayer Cafe is a small, independent cafe specializing in handmade food and drinks. We began as a farmer’s market stand called ToastFace in 2022 and have since opened a small bakery and cafe. We make all of our breads and pastries from scratch, and utilize local meats, produce and coffee on our breakfast and lunch menus. Open early with coffee, tea and pastries, with dine-in breakfast and lunch service. Now featuring Ice Cream from Central Dairy and pizza-by-the-slice after 5pm. We also have a drive-thru for online order pickup

I drive over 20 miles just to buy their sourdough bread. It is the best! The marble rye makes wonderful sandwiches, too. Although, while you’re there buying bread, you should try one of the fantastic sandwiches they make there.

So far I have tried: the turkey club, the muffeletta, and the Cuban sandwich. They all have unique ingredients that take them over the top. The onion jam on the turkey club is a favorite! The Dijon mustard on the Cuban definitely has more of a horseradish kick than you would expect, but it’s great.

I have not tried their coffee yet, but I have had a chai latte (Hands down the BEST chai latte I’ve ever had – super rich!) and an absolutely dreamy London Fog.

They offer some baked goods as well. The cinnamon rolls were fantastic. But for me, it’s really just all about that bread!

The opening of Bricklayer here was bittersweet for me, as I frequented the previous resident, Cornerstone Coffee. However, there is no possible way to be disappointed in having bread like this so close to home. It is simply incredible. It is tender with just the right amount of chewiness, and the crust may be more flavorful than the bread. I have only tried a few of their other offerings. The breakfast quiche I had was served still somewhat cold, so it wasn’t my favorite, but the greens with a house made dressing were actually so good, I didn’t care about the quiche. I recently tried the pumpkin soup and it was one of the best soups I’ve ever had. Velvety smooth with a balanced spice to it, and it was garnished with tiny cubes of fresh apple. Unfortunately, the container was only about halfway filled, but the piece of toast drenched in butter helped make up for my sadness in not having more soup to eat. And
not to disappoint those those who need gluten free options, the gluten free cheesecake made me question if it was GF, it was that good (and big enough for two people). The coffee and drinks also are high quality, like everything else. Regardless, this is a gem of a place with bread and other food to rival anything in the state and beyond, truly. I’m thankful they opened right here in Troy.

Small town feel is captured here beautifully! It’s not just the “vibe” that makes you feel warm and happy though. The food here is truly incredible. From the constant involvement with local food resources, homemade bread, to the warm and friendly greetings and lastly the creative and delicious items located on their seasonal menus. Bricklayer is truly one of my favorites and I have never had an item that I have been disappointed with. While I would like to keep this a small town secret, it’s hard to not share good/quality food when it is found and loved.

It was a first time visit for my wife and I. We must have been there on a bad day. My wife and I ordered breakfast, bacon and eggs and toast. I had scrambled and my wife ordered fried over easy. When breakfast was brought to our table her eggs were fried hard to the point it had crust. No one came to our table to ask if everything was ok. After my wife ate some of her eggs and as we were leaving my wife went to the front counter to complain about her eggs. The response she got surprised me. The waitress said she didn’t cook the eggs and didn’t care. We won’t be back.

A hidden gem, worth the drive from StL!

When you walk into this place you smell a fresh bakery and it instantly puts you in a better mood. Then you are greeted by such friendly staff.

This was our first visit, but will not be the last!

The avacado BLT was the best I’ve had in years. So much fresher than the boring chain restaurants. We also tried the turkey caprese which was equally amazing. The locally made chips were icing on the cake!

I can’t wait to return to try some desserts! I love supporting small businesses.

While my girlfriend and I were there I asked for a pack of ice. They provided an ice pack, a big glass water and we’re very attentive to my needs while I was there. The food was quite tasty as well. Their iced PSL was really well made. My girlfriend got their pumpkin chai and said it was really good as well. Overall their service was phenomenal and will definitely be returning.

Bricklayer Cafe is hands down one of our favorite spots! My husband and I are regulars, and we can’t get enough of their amazing menu. He always goes for the shaken espresso, while I love their lavender latte. When it comes to breakfast, the bodega roll is my absolute favorite!

We recently introduced my brother-in-law and his family to Bricklayer, and now they’re hooked too. Any time they are in town they always request Bricklayer.
One of the things I love most about this place is how often they change up the menu, always offering something new and tasty. My go-to lunch order is the turkey club—it’s what I had today, and it was absolutely delicious!

I can’t recommend this place enough! If I had one request, it would be for the Jalapeño Cheddar sourdough to make a comeback—my meatloaf sandwiches just aren’t the same without it!
