A nice little hole-in-the-wall on Main Street in downtown Sarasota. Inside the atmosphere is laid back with a nice soothing appeal.
We sat at the bar and were instantly assisted by one of the bartenders. He took our drink and food order quickly.
My wife ordered the Plain Jane with grilled chicken and fries. The seasoning was good and the chicken was cut into strips, which was definitely surprising. But, she enjoyed the flavor and the fries were cooked well.
My Brew Burger had possibly the largest piece of lettuce I have ever seen on a burger. It was, though, very good, and the amount of fries was outstanding.
Brewster’s is a perfect spot for a nice quiet lunch and drink in the bustle that is downtown Sarasota. As with all restaurants and shops on Main Street the biggest drawback is trying to find parking.

Friday, January 16, 2026 – Two for a burger bite. Not before the FST show.

I have reviewed about 30 restaurants in and around Sarasota since 2021 when we moved down permanently and are members of the FST.
On this Friday night, nothing was going right. My wife was delayed at school etc. So then a delayed departure from Venice, a false stop at Mad Moe’s for a burger in Osprey (PACKED) and then a direct shot and parking across from FST we hope for a quick burger or something at the bar or restaurant at FST? But it was PACKED and they weren’t serving any more???? We threw our tickets in the trash because now we could not make it back in time, (( frown 🙁 ))
So a walk to Main Street to see if Patrick’s or anybody might have room for two? NOPE. and we were walking along and THERE WAS BREWSTER’s GASTROPUB!!!!!!!!!!
For some reason I have 128 restaurants on my Sarasota Favorites list and Brewster’s was not on it? I checked them on as I entered???
Looked VERY full at the bar, and most tables were full but it looked like we had a shot…… and there was a four top high-top!!!!!!! WIDE OPEN!! I think the no table service might be the delineator. We weren’t looking for a sit down “dining” and full service gig. Nor did we need the overhead and pomp and circumstance of a host/hostess, army of bus staff, a waitstaff and being waited on with drinks and water and etc?
******** We came to EAT GOOD SIMPLE FOOD and have FUN. ****
And that’s what we did!!! “Todd” at the bar was friendly and fantastic. All the bartenders and staff were helpful and friendly. The “security guy” when he saw me at the bar for about 20 seconds helped me get some ketchup. Zone defense and team effort!!!!
I got the signature Brew Burger and a side of Street Corn and had an endless glass of water w/ lemon I think I had Todd fill about 5 times. My wife and I bantered about what the Street Corn would be and we were happily surprised with the authentic Mexican Street Corn (elotes?) on the cob with a stick and a delightful creamy Chile, garlic, and Cotija cheese sauce I think. (problem is we gobble them up before we could figure out the exact sauce composition here. BUT it was very tasty. 10/10 The burger (for this adult usually nutritarian plant-based eater) was EXACTLY what I had hoped for. A wonderfully fresh an warm brioche bun, fantastic angus burger, cheddar and a “secret sauce” . I got lettuce onion and pickles which are standard…… this was VERY VERY VERY tasty. only quip is I will opt for sauce on the side and its was a little too much sauce. This was mega and uber better than some greasy Five Guys or Smashburger or any of that stuff. 10/10
My wife got the Shroom & Swiss Burger that had a wonderful portobello mushroom on it nicely cooked, terrific angus burger properly cooked exactly as we ordered it, she loved the blue cheese perfect amount, She also felt a bit TOO much of the secret sauce, but its pretty tasty so not a catastrophe. This was also an AWESOME burger!! 10/10 The sweet potato fries were not crazy greasy and perfectly crisp but not crunchy for fries – good, cross-cut and obviously bulk bag. Cut or sliced would be nicer but of course not expected, its a side. 7/10
The place is clean and glassware and silverware perfectly clean. The counter/bar service is fantastic. I had to make a few trips for ketchup and place ware and etc but hey when your wife gets one of the better vodka cranberry w/lemon and club in a large tumble for $9 instead of $15 or $16 for a 6 oz martini glass with 4 oz of watery drink…….. its a home run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With all the TVs and sports that is probably the summary of my review. Brewster’s Gastropub is a Grand Slam for food and service……and especially burgers!!!

Alaina was absolutely killing it! Busy, games going, beers flying, and weird guys giving her a hard time. I don’t believe there is a thing she couldn’t do there. 10/10 recommend and absolutely coming back. Kenzie is also a honorable mention! Great work gals

I havent tried the food but likely good. Drinks were great. Bartender with longer hair and hat was very nice and did great job. Door fella was so sweet and friendly. 3 stars and maybe less because extremely grouchy rude bouncer guy guarding bathroom area was absolutely awful to my friend. Definitely horrid attitude. Yes late at night so maybe too late for him or maybe just hates women but not at all appropriate. Bathrooms are around a dark corner and are unisex. We waited for a young friend to ensure she was safe and comfortable with the many men in that area. The bouncer was attacking and yelling at other friend. Huge turn off to a place that seemed to be a good vibe with dart boards and good drinks. But wow what a nasty grouch of a man with an authority complex. But 5 stars for other fellas who were all so nice and helpful.

Wow! Let me tell you. This place has phenomenal food. Service was great and the food was so good. It’s traditional bar food with a twist. Wings were delicious and spicy. Nachos were to die for! They recommended blackened chicken and they were excellent. Elotes, burgers, and pretzels were so good! Don’t let me forget about their fries! They’re shoestring, salty, and delicious. Great all around experience. Keep it up!

Ty was the absolute best bartender I have encountered in a long time. He was friendly, courtesous and made a great cocktail. He also remembered my name. I came over to have a drink after a rough day and being fat shamed at the less than substandsrd stale establishment next door named Joe’s.
If you want a great cocktail, friendly staff, a chill atmosphere that will welcome you, please enjoy Brewster’s were the vibe is always on point.

I’m not one who normally writes a review, but I felt the need to in this situation.
My daughter was in Sarasota for the holidays and went to this establishment. Let me preface by stating that she has worked in a similar establishment in Philadelphia for several years.
During her time at the bar there was a shift change, the evening male bartenders were immediately rude to them- which they questioned. Apparently they were not familiar with what a “kitty” was. Her mother in law was asked to leave. And they agreed that it was time to leave because of how they were being treated. Once my daughter stepped outside she realized she had left her purse on the barstool and proceeded to go back in to grab it. The bouncer stopped her and asked to see her ID, she explained that she left her purse inside. He would not let her in. She then explained to another guy the situation- he then said that her purse was inside & described in detail what it looked like.
She was told to come back the following day to pick it up.
She returned the following day, spoke to a female employee, and explained the situation. She could tell by her response that she was aware of the situation. She said she would go get her manager. It was awhile before he returned. He also knew who she was, she explained that she was there on vacation and her flight was that evening. She also told him that his employee described her purse to her and he looked embarrassed. He then proceeded to tell her the evening employees were probably sleeping so he couldn’t get in touch with them. And that in Sarasota you shouldn’t leave your purse. And that there was nothing he could do.
Police have been contacted, but I wouldn’t recommend patronizing this establishment. I’m sure that this is not the first time that something like this has happened here. And I would bet based upon the unapologetic response that management is well aware and may be in on this scheme.

For a first impression, I can’t complain too much. The wings could have been better but they still had more positive than negative. The service from Johnny was great, from hospitality to food service. Shoutout to the kitchen too.

Stopped in with some friends to have a good evening catching up. Everything was great until my wife and one of our friends needed to use the restroom. While they were waiting in line and talking with other patrons, one of the security people started shouting at everyone to get against the wall and physically pushed my wife. Asking is one thing. Physically pushing is another. If you think it’s okay to manhandle women who are just standing in a line, that’s a problem. This will eventually get your establishment into a civil suite and your employees criminal charges.
