Visited the place in non season. The place was good, I tried lemonade, fish & chips and salmon burger. The food was tasty . Service was excellent. I need to visit again in summer.

This place is amazing. Visit it. Truthfully, it has been difficult to write a review for this place because it is such a unique experience. Breakwaters is the beating heart of Point Roberts. Point Roberts is this weird little exclave of the United States that is able to function simultaneously as a fully independent island where everyone knows each other and a sustained, close community. As a long term visitor to Point Roberts, I have been welcomed with open arms and camaraderie in a way I have never felt anywhere else I have visited. Breakwaters is THE local spot which, frankly, only works because of the beating heart of all of Point Roberts “Anthony”. During the weeks I have been here Anthony has been the primary bartender and server and – oh my – is this one guy emblematic of the heart of this community. He is worth meeting, in fact, the whole town is worth meeting. From visiting Breakwaters I feel you can sense the energy of a community that supports itself, functions on its own, and has a community vibe that I have truly felt no other place I have been in my life. Why you would ‘randomly’ see this review, I don’t know, but if you do somehow come across this place, visit! Say hi to the person at the bar next to you. Say hi to the bartender, say hi to Point Roberts!
Oh, and the drinks are good, the food is great, and the portions are generous – in case you wanted to know something less prosaic.

Breakwaters has been open around a year now, replacing the previous marina restaurant. This was my first visit to Breakwaters and have some good and constructive feedback. The branding seems confusing, the logo is pirate like whereas the interior design is very country cottage. My main issue is the staffing levels. arriving towards the end of the standard lunch period we had to wait to be seated (totally fine) but the bartender shouted at us to just wait, quickly several guests lined up behind us and were told the same. We were hoping to sit outside on the patio but were told “sorry we only have 1 umbrella”. We sat inside instead and it took forever to have anyone acknowledge us after taking our seats. Finally the bartender came by with menus, cutlery etc and told us “sorry we only have two people on staff right now”. What I found interesting is that I heard several times over the course of our time there the poor staff having to apologize to patrons that “sorry! We have have 1 server and 1 bartender on staff on these days”. The bartender had to run the bar, seat guests, run all over the restaurant, take food orders etc. One major detractor for this restaurant is the exorbitant prices on the food, easily over priced by 2-4 times. Having said that, the food we ordered was good, the edamame was a bit odd, it has diced tomatoes thrown on top (it’s finger food, why would you put diced tomatoes on top?). I realize that Point Roberts is not busy on a Monday during most parts of the year, however this is the two busiest weeks of the year and on a Monday, there are only two lunch options, the Reef Tavern and Breakwaters. While there Breakwaters had between 30-40 guests and you simply can’t serve that many with one server. Would I go there again? If the owners figure out the staffing maybe.

One hour wait for food.
When we walked in the host told us the kitchen was backed up an hour. They only had 6 tables seated. They also didn’t have any menus to show us until the table next to us finished ordering. We didn’t stay.
The decor is like a cheap 80s cafeteria.

My husband and I went to the Breakwaters on July 24, 2019 at 1 pm after a lovely bike ride around Point Roberts and we were looking for a wonderful experience to end our ride. We arrived and were immediately seated. Including us there were about 5 tables of customers with 2 – 4 people at each table. There were two servers working. We waited about 10 minutes for our drinks. I ordered a cider which was brought to me in the bottle. I asked for a glass and about 15 minutes and a second request later, I received the glass. We ordered a cup of clam chowder each and both found it was heavily over salted but it did arrived hot and promptly. We also ordered fish and chips that came about 40 minutes later which was over cooked and served cold. The explanation was it has been a busy lunch hour before we arrived and they only had one cook on. I spoke to another couple at a table near us and they too mentioned how salty the clam chowder was and that they ordered nachos (which also took 40 minutes to arrive) that was served so cold the cheese hadn’t even melted. I read the reviews going in and thought we were in for a great experience but every thing about it was a huge and expensive disappointment. I would have given this place no stars but had to give it one star in order to be able to post my review.

Hmmmm….ok….so this place *pre covid* was good, bordering excellent. Now, not so much.
Food is great, thanks to an awesome Texan chef – Philly cheesteak needed a little more seasoning, but the service??? Shocking doesn’t even begin to describe it! The staff simply could NOT care less! Forgotten orders, empty tables where patrons have left, but still with food and drinks left for over 3 hours before they were cleared…and when we asked to have the table wiped, we needed to use our own wipes afterwards….and then share them with other customers.
The whole place just looks tired, and it’s super sad to see. It could be great, but needs staff (other than the chef!) who care.

Sadly, this restaurant was absolutely horrible and was not worth visiting at all. The service was something to work on, we waited approx. 50 minutes for the food to arrive, at the time the restaurant was very empty, however the waiter was kind. The food was even worse, I ordered the Eggs Benedict with a side of so called “Home Fries”. The Eggs, were well seasoned and presentable, however very overcooked. The English muffin was very, very burnt on its backside. Now, their “Home Fries”, no seasoning, they taste like plain, boiled potato that even slat and pepper could not save. They were wet, not crunchy and very burnt. As if they cooked them in the oven first, THEN they boiled them before serving. Heck, I think they probably just microwaved most of our food. We live in Canada, came here for a family evening, it was great, but the food ruined the day.

I drove down to Breakwaters from Vancouver for the first time a few days ago. Stopped by for a pint of Washington’s local IPA and really enjoyed it. In addition, I appreciated getting to know the locals and Anthony the bartender. Very welcoming atmosphere, and a surprisingly powerful karaoke system! I will be coming back soon for sure.

We stopped for a light snack yesterday. We only ordered salads which took an hour to arrive and were basically “from a bag style” lettuce. My friend has severe allergies so advised the waitress she would need olive oil and lemon for her dressing. After 45 minutes we checked on her order to be told they only had vegetable oil. She requested they cancel her order but was told they couldn’t do that. The salad was limp and tastless. Never again will I eat at this place. I am a frequent visitor to PR and have never written a negative review on any establishment before but felt this one was necessary. Lovely setting so too bad the service and food were both abysmal!!!

WARNING: Prioritizes take out orders.
An hour and 20 minutes after our order was taken, and having not seen the server once in that time, we finally went inside and asked what was going on. They hadn’t even started cooking our food.
Turns out they do lots of takeout orders and prioritize these over in-house orders. They had so much take out that night they never got to our food, and they never even bothered to check in and tell us this.
EDIT: I see the restaurant added a comment. First off, if they knew they were overwhelmed, they should have told us when we sat down and we could have been on our way, instead of just ignoring us for over an hour. Second, they were not overwhelmed with patrons- less than 20% of their tables were occupied, and in the hour we sat there less than 5 tables were served food. They were absolutely prioritizing take out orders, we specifically heard the staff say they needed to get a take out order done ASAP because they had “already paid” when we went inside to see what was happening.
