We stopped over in Columbia and had brunch at this westside location during a trip from Florida. Very small, quaint restaurant in a renovated old building. It was packed. Told our wait was 50 minutes or so, and they would text us. We would have 6 minutes to respond or lose our place and have to “start over” ‍♀️ ‍♀️.
Well, my 70yo friend did a mad dash from the parking lot behind the building (as really no place at restaurant to wait out our time) and made it. We had chosen the option to eat at the bar, possibly shortening said wait time and it did by a little bit. We were right on the end at entrance to bar service area and bathroom. We asked if we could exchange for a little 2 person table that had opened up. We were told no, if we did that we would go to the back of the list and have to “start over”. We stayed at the bar, it was hectic and loud, barring any small chit chat between us.
My dasher friend ordered the Farmer’s Omelet, side of grits, and coffee. She enjoyed it tremendously, had to get a take-home and finished it off the next morning. Big thumbs up. I had the Shrimp & Grits with added andouille sausage. Questioned server about the white wine garlic cream sauce, as I was very intrigued, most of the time this dish bumps up against cajun seasonings in some form or other. So, I added optional andouille to punch up the cream sauce. As you can see from picture, bumping up against cajun seasonings was exactly right. Nowhere was a white wine garlic cream sauce. A red, oil or butter based, paprika, cayenne pepper etc., sauce with diced, sauteed white onions, green onions and smoked gouda. It was spicy. My biggest dining pet peeve; dish has many ingredients present that are not mentioned on the menu.
Though my dish was cooked perfectly, sweet tender shrimp, hearty white grits, it was underwhelming and I do not recommend the sausage.
I wish, wish, wish, I could have been as happy with my meal as my dasher friend. I wanted to be. Our bill came to over $60 with the tip. For that amount, I should have been. Can I get a “start over” now?

When I entered, I was greeted by the hostess. I told her I was waiting on one other person, so she said I could not be seated until the other party arrived. This seems to be a mishap on their behalf as a business as there is no waiting area. She could have offered me a seat at the bar during my wait as it was only a party of two, she could have seated me and offered a start on drinks or appetizers, but instead I was left to stand by the entrance waiting. Once my friend arrived, we were immediately seated. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits with a waffle while I partook of the cinnamon French toast. When she ordered the shrimp and grits, she said she did not want the onions/scallions. The server repeated the order, but the grits had to be remade because there were onions in the grits. Unfortunately, I was not impressed by the food. As much as I would like to rave about how wonderful the meal was, it was mediocre at best. The presentation was amazing and had I been eating with my eyes alone, I’d have been thoroughly satiated. Tragically, the food was lacking in the flavor department. It wasn’t terrible, but left much to be expected for the palate. The temperatures of the meals were good and the produce was fresh.

Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. Understand there is limited space/seating due to the size of the restaurant. The ambiance is light, cozy, and inviting. Music played, but not so loud you couldn’t hear the person sitting across from you. There were quite a bit of people, but the chatter was more like a soft murmur. The staff were polite and during the course of the meal, attentive. I don’t consume spirits of any sort, but the mimosas seem to be very popular, as well as the chicken and waffles seemed to be a crowd favorite. I may give them another try, but not in the near future due to my personal tastes.

December 18, 2025 I went here for breakfast. It’s a cute little spot. When I say small it’s small. My brother and I didn’t make any reservations. By the way if you do make reservations make sure your whole party is there or you will not be seated and the people behind you will sit. It was very crowded when we got there. There was no server to greet us when we came in. We stood there for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before a server came.
They asked us did we want to sit a the bar, wait another 5 to 10 minutes while they clean off table or seat at the cute little island at the front. I decided to sit at the cute little island at the front. We had scencery from outside.
I ordered hot chocolate and the French toast with banana foster, pork sausage and over easy egg. I can’t forget the bacon. The food was very delicious. I laugh at my pork sausage because it really didn’t look like a sausage link I ever seen before. . I would recommend. Next time I go I want to try the steak and egg breakfast.
My brother ordered the shrimp and grits which is not pictured. He also ordered bacon with hit chocolate.
I heard there mimosa are good. For those who love them. I think you should try it. Need a new breakfast or brunch spot try this place out.

Came here with family for my son’s Birthday. We were told we can be seated together via phone however when we got there it was a different story. We had two tables and could not sit together. The manager was very nice however and apologized for the inconvenience. She took everyone’s order and offered a mimosa flight which I gladly accepted. Our food came out…..some of our eggs were cold and hard. I had the BLT which was dry. I asked for a side salad with chicken and just received the salad.

This place is beyond amazing, delectable… such an adorable breakfast cafe. The service was on point! The French Toast was the best I’ve ever had, think cinnamon swirl bread that is actually more like a cinnamon bun bread, grilled to perfection with a slightly crispy charred brown sugar crust. With strawberries. And whip cream. And my husband had the brisket omelette and OMG.

My first time here. Ordered the flight of mimosas with my lady. I had the shrimp and grits. They were excellent. She had the classic breakfast with bacon and said it was amazing. The service was so good. It made me realize I’ve had bad service a lot elsewhere. So they raise the bar. Very knowledgeable servers as well.

We stopped in here for some brunch a bit ago. We were greeted by the sweetest girls! At that time, they were celebrating their third anniversary and told us about a drawing they were doing. After we were seated, they spent most of our time in there creating a song and dance to introduce people to the raffle. They had such a positive attitude and we had a great time watching them come up with the final product. This place has the best breakfast ever! Super fluffy eggs! Everything that I had was so good! I really loved all the different mimosas they had to pick from. I picked a strawberry one and it was delicious! Our server was such a sweetheart and made our experience even more enjoyable!

I found Breakfast at Ruiz on Google Maps while searching for a breakfast place, and I’m so glad we tried it! It’s a small restaurant, but we were seated right away, soon after opening on Sunday. Everything was outstanding! Our waitress was very attentive. The portions are huge and absolutely delicious! Highly recommended!

Oh, parking in the lot behind the restaurant was easy and free (at least that Sunday morning)

Small and quaint but nothing is bigger than the taste!!! Came here for my birthday brunch. They had a mimosa kit which was great for the table! Unfortunately they were out of French toast, but we were not disappointed with our backup orders. Everything was hot and fresh and the staff were great with pleasant attitudes! They were quite busy and we of course granted the service the grace it needed—overall we left happy and full! FYI they will not sit you without all your party there. Plenty of parking as there is a parking garage right across the street.
