The bread is very very very good. Consistently awesome. Check the website, availability varies by day of the week. There are also monthly specials. Usually, if they don’t have a loaf of what you want, they will have it in roll form.
The only negative comes from when I asked to have a long baguette cut in half to better fit in my bag (I was walking home). They said they didn’t have a knife. Which I don’t believe. They just didn’t want to be bothered.

The bake wonderfully breads. When ever I’m visiting the Lansing area we stop and purchase several different varieties that are available.

I stopped in for the first time on Saturday afternoon. I bought two loaves of bread (cinnamon swirl & espresso chocolate chip) and two goodies – a peanut butter cookie and an almondine – I should NOT have done that, I should not have bought just one, I should have bought them ALL! They were amazing. The cookie and the breads are also fabulous! The cinnamon swirl makes AMAZING French toast! The owner gave me a tip of putting it in the freezer for about 15 minutes before slicing it and THEN making the French toast. It worked fantastically and it was SO good! The espresso chocolate chip just takes about 15 seconds in the microwave before you spread butter on it and eat it with your coffee.
I don’t know why I have never stopped in here before, but now, this is where I will get my specialty breads. Unlike other places, he isn’t raising his prices through the roof, he is keeping the costs low for the customers. I also learned that all of the bread is made fresh each night and whatever doesn’t sell is donated to different organizations. This owner is someone that cares about his community and his customers and that was so refreshing to hear. It was great talking with him and the other employee that was there, I walked out of there feeling happy and excited to 1) try all my goodies, and 2) feeling like I had found a new treasure.
I definitely recommend Breadsmith and will be going back as soon as we finish the what we have!

A real gem. A great local bakery with solid regular items (baguette, italian and french loaves, ryes) and special items around holidays. All are well (and locally) made. In addition, the owners/proprietors are friendly and knowledgeable.

It’s our local bakery. I think the employees make it better. The peanut butter cookies are my favorite. I bought a leaf of bread as a birthday gift. Most appreciated by recipient. I purchased assortment of cookies to share at dinner, another hit. Glad I chose Breadsmith. Won’t allow me to correct leaf to loaf.

This place will be closed until August 14th so the employees can take a vacation! Who does that for their employees!
What’s left in the shop is being sold today, plus a free pastry, cookie, or whichever is left.
I bought a favorite Honey Whole Wheat, and yes, they slice the bread for you.
They also have jams for sale and fresh baked buns for burgers. I hope you’ll stop by when they open again! You’ll be greeted with happy employees.

Bought a loaf of their bread at another location and decided to go to the Breadsmith Bakery. Bought a loaf of Cherry Walnut, Swirled Rye, and a loaf of Cinnamon Swirl. Got one of the BEST Brownies we’ve ever had! It’s an awesome shop for homemade breads and treats. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Its legitimately the best bread in Okemos and the employees there top notch and and lovely. Today I tried to stroll in but found them closed. This by itself is NOT a problem as its closed for employee vacation (which is cool) but seeing that google says Breadsmith in Okemos is open I just show up. Here is why I have given a single star. I arrived to see no bread in the window and someone coming out of the store. I approach and the gentleman says we are closed. I assumed out of bread tbh and ask what the problem was? He sighs and rudely says hes had the sign on the door for two weeks now. I believe this was the owner and was shocked at the abruptness and rudeness over something kinda of cool. But if my confusion and time were wasted over that since I just wanted some sourdough then I wont be going back. Again the employees working there deserve the break cause they are really cool.
