The pastrami biscuit and French toast with the “everything pulled apart” are immaculate with intense and great flavors! We definitely will be back for more! Vibes and decorations also very cute, this is a 10/10 bakery and brunch spot if you’re in Portland!

There probably need to be three categories of reviews for Bread and Friends as it is a bakery, a brunch spot and a dinner spot. I am reviewing the dinner category. When you walk into a casual bakery don’t be fooled by the setting, the food is spectacular. This is a true gourmet experience. The dishes were impeccably crafted with an amazing flavor range that made you say wow with your first bite. Every dish was excellent. There were three of us dining and we shared all the different dishes and the portions were perfect for sharing.

I want to tell you about my experience here but I cannot think about anything other than how delicious the kouign-amann is. The black cherry and chocolate kouign-amann has to be the best pastry I’ve ever eaten. It’s a perfect balance of butter and sugar and crisp and that interior chocolate with the black cherry … I’m taking this energy in 2026! But also the restaurant is so light, and warm, the staff the personable as anything and we had such a delightful breakfast. We arrived early (before 9AM) and it does look like it gets busy, so if avoiding a wait is any motivation, this is a spot worth getting out of bed for!

Had breakfast here and everyone in my group was very happy with their food. Definitely not a place if you want a super basic breakfast, though that isn’t a criticism. I enjoyed a delicious brown butter latte and their mini pastrami biscuit sandwiches. Everything well made and service was efficient.

Literally can’t wait to go back to Portland to eat at this gem of a restaurant. The pastrami biscuits were amazing, the mushroom truffle omelette was off the charts and the Dutch pancake was such a gorgeous and delightful preparation. We left with a bag full of treats and sourdough bread for home as well. The hostess was great at getting us seated and service was so attentive and gracious. The design is the restaurant was clean, fresh and bright. This is a must try if you are in Portland.

I recently visited Bread and Friends in Portland, Maine, right when they opened at 8 AM, and it was an outstanding experience! I started with a delicious chocolate croissant and a cup of coffee, both of which were fantastic. I also tried the chawanmushi, and it was perfection: the egg custard was silky, and the duck was tender and flavorful.
I couldn’t resist getting their sourdough bread, and it was evident that top-quality flour was used. The baguettes I took home were crisp, flavorful, and absolutely delicious.
To top it off, I took home a few pastries: the morning bun, which was like the ultimate cinnamon roll with a perfect texture; the cannoli croissant with chocolate chips and mascarpone filling; and a pumpkin pastry that was wonderfully spiced and perfectly laminated.
Overall, I highly recommend Bread and Friends for breakfast, and I’m definitely looking forward to trying their dinner menu soon!

Great place to have a breakfast or brunch. Very good food: savory and sweet baked goods. Coffee is excellent. Don’t forget about mimosa on the weekend! Staff sending chill vibes.
Just note there is a line on the weekends but goes fast and its fun to sit/ stand outside and people watch!
Must do when in Portland in my opinion.

Cozy cafe during the day with a limited but creatively curated and delicious dinner menu that combines farm-to-table food with unique and effective flavors. Was pleasantly surprised and the price point felt spot on for the quality of food and service. Lovely atmosphere with a super friendly and engaging staff. Definitely go for the Breads and Friends parker rolls, all of the vegetable dishes (particularly the carrots and sunchoke) and the Scottish salmon (the sauces will make you want to lick the plates).

We had visited a year ago for brunch which we then talked about for months after. So while on another trip to the area this weekend, we decided to try dinner. It was equally phenomenal. The quality of food is 10/10 but the unique flavor combinations are what makes Bread & Friends so special. Plus the vibes of the atmosphere and staff are immaculate. Cannot recommend it enough!!

The service at bread and friends was great and the atmosphere was adorable. The coffee we had was good! We ordered a few of the pastries, and they were all phenomenal. Highly recommend the sourdough bread. We were not fans of the deviled eggs the flavor was a bit weird, others may like.
