10’s across the board! This place is the definition of a GEM. The food, the cocktails, the service, the ambiance.. everything was impeccable! Our bartenders were especially attentive which was so impressive given how busy their soft opening was. We ordered one of everything on the menu and Chef Shannon did not disappoint! Highly recommend checking this place out if you get the chance. Make sure to order the mussels! I’ll be dreaming of them until the next time I can make it out to Onancock!

I have now had two meals at Bread and Butter and anticipate many, many more in the future! The whole experience both times was wonderful, from beginning to end. We were greeted by the hostess as soon as we walked through the door and immediately taken to our table (we did have reservations both times). Within a matter of moments our server was there to take our drink orders and answer any questions about the menu. I appreciated that the staff was knowledgeable on the food and drink options available and they took the time to explain things (like what exactly does brown butter fat washed bourbon mean!). Everything we ordered was fantastic. The spicy margarita, brown butter fat washed bourbon old fashioned and gin drink were all amazing and I could tell that the bartenders took their time to create these drinks with pride. The food was on another level! The chefs have really elevated this menu and again I believe they take pride in the product they are sending to your table. The mussels in curry sauce were to die for! Not too spicy and plenty to share (or not!). The garlic knots come out light and flavorful, perfect for dipping in that curry sauce! The first night I had the kale Caesar salad with the hangar steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and the kale was delicate and seasoned with plenty of cheese and a pinch of salt. The second time I ordered the 1/2 chicken confit. Again, the chicken was cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside with a delicious flavor. It came with grilled vegetables and farro which I believe was pan fried and an excellent accompaniment to the chicken. My partner had the mushroom pizza and raved about it. We ended up taking half our meals home with us because it was just so much food, but we did save room to share the chocolate chip bread pudding which was *chefs kiss. Our server was never far away, refilling our waters and making sure we weren’t forgotten, checking in after the food came to make sure everything was to our liking. Onancock is a very small town so to have a restaurant of this level tucked away in our small part of Virginia makes me so happy! Please do not take my word for it, try it for yourself!

I cannot rave about this place enough! The atmosphere is on point, definitely a go to date spot. The service was attentive and genuinely friendly.
And the food?! Killer. Every single dish had a real wow factor. The flavor profiles were layered and complex in a way that just perfectly complemented each other. I don’t know what kind of wizardry this chef is doing in that kitchen but I’m hooked.
The mussel appetizer was so good I would’ve licked the bowl clean with zero shame if no one was watching. I also haven’t had a pizza this good in forever, the crust was absolute perfection. I’ll absolutely be back!

Bread and Butter just opened last weekend. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and experience there last evening, a Thursday. The restaurant is beautiful. They have really “softened” and updated the look of what was already a great post and beam building. A new bar area is both inviting and a handsome addition to the space. Signature drinks that we ordered were outstanding. Our entree which was a pasta dish, Ravelle, was delicious but we would also like to be able to add a protein to it. Perhaps shrimp or chicken? The garlic rolls were melt in your mouth wonderful. We also ordered a kale salad to share and it was so large that we still brought home enough for another meal. The entree portions were generous as well.
We were waited on quickly by a friendly and knowledgeable server. The staff has been well trained and we noted that the staffing was plentiful and customers were well attended. Our drinks, salad and meals were delivered in a timely fashion. We will definitely return!
The addition of this new restaurant is most welcome in Onancock. We liked the vibe of it and appreciated the sound system which provided quality sound, great background and enjoyable music choices but was not overly loud.
