Brassica was started as the first brick and mortar restaurant from the Whisk Pop Up group. Our passions begin with locally sourced, creative food and beverage, served in a laid back and friendly atmosphere. But our staff is the true heart and soul of the Brassica experience. The 3 co-owners: Jeremy Kean – executive chef, Philip Kruta – co-chef and designer, and Rebecca Kean – operations manager. We are so proud to be the parents of our lovely family and to operate in such a wonderful neighborhood. After 9 years, on OCTOBER 15th, 2025, we are expanding to a larger space at the former Dogwood – right next door! This expansion will provide more space, more jobs, and more fun for all of us; we’re stoked! Reservations will go live 10/2/25 🙂
Hip, buzzy cafe with gourmet java & pastries by day & Euro-style meals, plus cocktails, by night.

The BK fried chicken (we ordered the larger portion) was incredibly tender and had just the right amount of sweetness served with a small portion of homemade mustard sauce on the side and lemon wedges, it was definitely a winner.
However, the real star of the show was the Brussels sprouts. They were absolutely fantastic, crispy, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with flavor. Definitely the dish that left the biggest impression, and I’ll be coming back just for those!
Edit: I made I a typo and wrote “informal” but really I meant “informative” ♀️ Learning that they just expanded and were adjusting to the new space is great context for helping me understand the delay!
We found a spot out front easily enough and though I made a reservation for 11:15 but we got there at 10:30 and they sat us at the bar immediately. No need to make a reservation. The bar was almost completely empty, but they sat us next to the service well which was odd. We got our coffee quickly, but surprisingly no espresso machine for espresso drink.
Our order was taken and within 10 minutes the food was out. We almost felt rushed, even if the food was ready the cadence was off from when we ordered, and when we received the food. The food was very good. We both enjoyed it and split our dishes, but considering the portions, it was a little expensive despite the tax and tip being included.
We weren’t offered refills of our coffee, but that’s fine. When the check was dropped It came to something like $54 with everything included. I dropped my card, the bartender grabbed it and ran it and dropped off the check for me to sign and it was $92. I flagged to him to get it fixed. Had to give my card back so we put it back on my card and then redid the transaction with the right amount. Check my bank statements and I was charged then refunded $92. Very bizarre and I’m glad I caught that when I did especially at a place where you don’t need to review it since tax and tip are automatically included.
Just the food it was really great, sitting us at the end of the bar, the food coming out extremely fast so we felt rushed, and getting charged the wrong amount, those all contributed to the three star rating.
The location is not so nice and the exteriors are somewhat rough, between a central bus station on a busy street with traffic and honking cars, and a parking lot of a funeral home, with big trash dumpsters.
We sat in the back yard tent, four people around a small table with small plates. We liked the concept of sharing various plates and dishes, but the portions were small and the food was very salty and greasy (gave me heartburn). The black cod was unpleasantly smelly (fishy), and the green salad was very bitter and salty. The only way to fill my tummy was to order some bread, which was served with way too much butter, really wasteful.
I saw a picture of fries in a review online and asked the waitress why it wasn’t on the menu, she smiled and said it’s a secret… she also suggested the special of the day, but did not tell us the price, and that was not on the menu either. As a matter of principle and practicality, all items should be on the menu, and customers should know the prices before placing orders.
The prices are pretty high and they charge around 23% fee to cover gratuity for the waiters, kitchen and bar staff. We respect and support all those good people, but do not like to be charged such high fees. Either raise the prices and show them clearly on the menu, or take whatever tips people leave and split the money between all the employees. Customers should have the freedom to decide how much they want to tip, considering the quality of food and service they received.
We enjoyed spending a couple hours with our friends, but did not enjoy the food or sitting on the asphalt in the undecorated tent, with loud background noise. For us, it was not worth $40 per person (with no meat or seafood, with no dessert or coffee); there are much nicer places at that price level.
