A Perfect Farewell Lunch at Brasserie L’Union 1949
What a wonderful last meal to wrap up our visit to the Côte d’Azur! Brasserie L’Union 1949 felt like the perfect place to say au revoir to Nice — warm, lively, and deliciously local.
We shared our plates, which felt just right here — hearty portions of honest, comforting Niçoise cooking that begs to be passed around. The house-made ravioli were exactly what you dream of in this region: tender, flavourful, and served in generous, steaming bowls. Every bite was a reminder that tradition, when done well, always tastes better.
The staff were so welcoming — it’s the kind of brasserie where you feel like a regular even if you’re not. The terrace and bustling dining room were full of locals, which tells you all you need to know.
If you want a true taste of old-school Nice, skip the fancy spots and come here instead. We couldn’t have chosen a better place for our last lunch — and we’re already looking forward to the next one.

I have been to this place a few times now and have really liked the food and atmosphere. I live nearby.
We stopped by on a Friday evening and they sat us at a table near the kitchen that was being used as an extension for the dishwasher – 15 glasses on our two top. Then several of the staff just looked at us sitting there … for 10 minutes without clearing the table.
Hey – I understand if there are no seats available. Turn us away if so. No problem. They were just rude so we walked out.

I ate here twice. The first time I had the menu trio with salade niçoise, rabbit with gnocchi, and baba au rhum. The second time I had caeser salad and ravioli with foie gras and port sauce. Excellent food, good house wine and good service. Huge portions, best to share.
The only downside was the rabbit was a little tough although I rarely eat rabbit so maybe that is normal.

The food portions were abundant. After a while, the ravioli became one-note as it was too creamy. However, nothing to fault as we did order a cheesy creamy ravioli. But despite that, I would say it’s a nice restaurant to have dinner in.

We had a good lunch with the family here. Their daube and rabbit dishes are in very generous portion- and the side dishes such as gnocchi and ravioli came with them were also in good sauce and tasty! P.S.: customers like their patio seatings that the front section may look empty but its patio was packed when we went.

We wanted to come here because the food looked good and it had good reviews. We walked 30 minutes from our hostel to eat. There were a few people eating and drinking and the person told us the restaurant was open at 7pm. We checked on Google and it said it was opened now until 11pm. We waited outside to figure out where to go next while they served people more beer. At one point after about 5 minutes of waiting while we figured out where to go another man showed up and got a drink.
If it’s closed then the restaurant should update their Google page to reflect that it’s closed. Also they shouldn’t be serving people after turning us away and the door shouldn’t be opened as it insinuates the restaurant is open.

Fresh, oven cooked, thin crusted delicious Ness. I will update the name of the pizzas, but from left to right they are pork, beef, and vegan in that category. More details later, but everything including the service and atmosphere was great.

Looks nice, good food, but awful service. Each time we needed waiter we had to wait for 15-20 minutes, as he was focused on only one table with (likely) his friends or usual customers (or both) mostly ignoring us.
