Great place to go. Overall the service is nice and the atmosphere is nice. I went for restaurant week.
We had some really good dishes and some other disappointing ones.
The french onion soup is amazing and I highly recommend to those who like french onion soup.
The chestnut soup also had great flavor and was a nice surprise. The salmon was amazing and the sauce that comes with the mashed potatoes and veggies really made the dish.
The steak frites were disappointing. The sauce was good but the meat was too chewey even though it was pink in the middle. It should have been softer.
The lemon tart was really good and refreshing but the vanilla flan honestly had no flavor.
I would like to go back and try other things in the menu but it is clear some things are better than others. The house white wine was also a nice balanced choice with all the food. We got a bottle for $30

I visited Brasserie Liberté on a weekday night during Restaurant Week to give it a try. The experience was a bit of a mixed bag with some hits and misses.

On the positive side. The French onion soup was flavorful and well-made. The salmon was also really tasty and cooked well. For dessert, the tarte au citron was a solid finish to the meal.

However, the steak was a disappointment. It was chewy and really lacked flavor. The vanilla flan was a complete miss for me as well since it had no taste at all.

Beware of hidden fees. The restaurant adds a mandatory 20% “service fee” to every check to “cover operating costs” and is not a tip for the server. It’s definitely something to be aware of before you sit down so the final price doesn’t catch you off guard.

My friend and I went for Restaurant Week brunch at Brasserie Liberte. We both had the chestnut soup. I had the Lox Benedict andvthe pumpkin cheesecake. She had the burgher and the pot au chocolat. The Lox Benedict, which came with a salad and home fries was delicious. The cheesecake was okay, but the pot au chocolat was very tasty. The portions are generous and the restaurant’s ambience is great and the decor tasteful. Service was excellent. I forgot to take photos of the soup and entree.

I made a reservation for Saturday afternoon, and honestly, there were plenty of tables available both inside and outside. The interior is really nice. The menu doesn’t have many options, but the ones they have are good. The lamb shank was tasty, but the side didn’t taste good. The service wasn’t very attentive and was kind of slow, the food took a long time to arrive. As for the prices, I think it’s ridiculous that they add 20% to your bill “to cover their increasing operational costs.” If that’s the case, they should just raise the prices of their dishes and get their math and logistics right.

I haven’t been back in four years. Glad the food had not changed. We had very attentive service and the food was pretty good. We had the steak tartare, steak and eggs (poached) with salad and roasted potatoes, gnocchi in fondue sauce, and house burger. We should’ve saved room for dessert. Will certainly return.

The dinner at this French restaurant was a pleasant experience with several highlights. The red wine selection was excellent—smooth, full-bodied, and a perfect complement to the meal.

We began with the French onion soup, which was deeply flavorful. The rich broth, caramelized onions, and melted cheese topping came together perfectly, making it a true standout starter. The steak tartare with raw egg was well-prepared, seasoned just right, and fresh, offering the classic taste you expect from this French favorite.

The croquettes were another strong point—crispy on the outside with a creamy interior, ideal as a shared appetizer. Although I personally didn’t try the escargot, the rest of the table enjoyed it and commented on its tenderness and garlicky butter sauce, so it seems to be a reliable choice here as well.

For the main course, the pasta was cooked al dente with a flavorful sauce, simple yet satisfying. While not the most traditional French option on the menu, it held its own in terms of taste and execution.

Service was smooth and attentive, and the atmosphere carried the kind of cozy charm you hope for in a French bistro setting. Overall, the meal delivered on both quality and variety, with the wine and onion soup as the clear standouts. I would return, especially to try more of the classic dishes done well here.

I liked the beef tartare and onion soup, despite the onion soup is so salty me and my husband are sharing and we can only finish half of it. The beef tartare taste good but not anything special ,the price is reasonable for the quality and portion. For the main we ordered duck confit and again we appreciate the portion and I liked the veggies of this dish.

Came in for restaurant week, the portion sizes were great, for this week specifically — you get a great bang for your buck. Location is great with a parking garage nearby. The ambiance of the restaurant is very cozy dimmed perfectly. As for the food, it was exceptional, the fries here are delicious — perfectly condimented and everything else lived up to the standard.

I went to Brasserie Liberté on 3/3 for my partners birthday, and we had an absolutely phenominal experience. I requested to be sat in the sweet whimsical booth, and even though it was just the two of us they made it happen (even though I only made the reservation a few days before).
Our server, Marianne, gave the best service I’ve had in a long time. The manager on shift, David, graciously gave us bottle service and was so kind.
We shared the gnocchi, steak tartar, green beans, the house salad with steak, the pot de creme, and citrus tart. Everything was delicious!! I cannot for the life of me figure out why this place only has 4.2 stars, they exceeded every expectation I had. I’m also a server, and its rare I receive the service I give, I was happy to give my money to this establishment. 10/10, I cant wait to go back. Thank you so much Marriane and David for everything!

Absolutely phenomenal first experience in D.C. and Georgetown. Angelina’s service was impeccable; attentive, warm, and genuinely outstanding from start to finish. The Coq au Vin was exceptional, one of the best I’ve had. Brasserie Liberté made our first Georgetown evening unforgettable. Highly recommend.
