Unexpected pit stop here while touring the region, more out of necessity less out of curiosity. I was surprised to learn how city life operated, and even if your legs are tied in a knot trying to prevent painting the sidewalk, decorating the exterior, or creating a midtown mash up masterpiece of last nights extra spicy food truck Gyro and liquor in the street, you can look the host in her eyes while yours are watering, hand her your wallet and say “I’ll buy a drink but please let me use your restroom,” and she’ll put her hand on her hip and say, “we’re actually really busy, so you’ll need to sit down for a full meal.” With terror surging through my veins, naturally, I said yes, we will do that.
I was visiting from a small town in the mid-west, and there’s something to say about culture and big cities that is inherently different. For one, two appetizers ringing in over $40 felt like an assault on my character, being called broke by someone else hurts, but by the menu? Yea, I got my moneys worth in that restroom – but not before Caroline (a newly engaged woman ran into that bathroom with such vigor you would have thought she too was on the verge of creating an advertisement of last nights dinner outfront) decided to steal her fiancés phone and go through it just two hours after saying, “yes, I will marry you,”
Naturally, he shows up, and whilst my friend and I are trying to enjoy our over priced overcooked calamari, he’s banging on the bathroom door yelling “Caroline,” demanding his ring back, telling her she can’t be doing this. Naturally, same king. If yall ever read this, you both deserve better. Anyways, he ends up inside the bathroom with her and after 20 minutes, the consciousness of myself, my friend, the staff, and even the squid reconstructing itself inside, seemed to intersect when we realized Caroline and the unnamed man worked their problems out, and were, eh, reconnecting?
Anyways, Calamari was overcooked, and the cheese puffs tasted like parm and cardboard, so we weren’t really impressed by the food. The atmosphere truly was nice, if bouji brunch is your thing, and our waiter was kind. Lots of refills on my water.
2* because I hope the host meets someone like herself in a time of need, and the food was bland.

We had a wonderful afternoon of light bites and noshing at Brasserie Cognac Central Park South. The setting is beautifully decorated and inviting, and the location right by Central Park makes it a perfect stop while exploring the area.
We shared the club sandwich, well-done French fries, and a lovely Sancerre, and everything was absolutely perfect. Simple food done really well, which is exactly what you want from a great brasserie.
The service was warm and attentive, and the whole experience felt relaxed and welcoming.
If you’re near Central Park South and looking for a charming place to sit down, enjoy a glass of wine, and have a great bite, this is definitely a do-not-miss spot. We’ll happily return.

It’s a smaller and quieter establishment among the hubbub of NYC.
Food is good, proper French technique with a little modern touch. The egg was nicely poached. Salad was fresh. Mimosa had the right proportions.
Serving size is more European than American, if you catch my drift.
Service was attentive and professional although the kitchen was slow and be prepared to have a little wait. Luckily this restaurant isn’t as busy as the others around it so getting a seat is easier.
Obviously no dedicated parking nor valet, just like most establishments around here

My daughter and I ate here last night before a show- the ambience is charming. We ordered the French onion soup which was amazing and the beef bourguignon, with a glass of wine. The beef dish wasn’t very warm and the meat was dry. The reason for 3 stars is the service. Our waiter never checked in with us and we had to flag him down repeatedly. My daughter ordered an espresso for dessert with the cream brûlée. I ordered some hot water with lemon since it was already 9:00 pm. They didn’t bring our drinks with the dessert and once again we had to remind our server that we didn’t get our drinks. When we got the bill they had charged us $5.00 for my hot water. When we brought this to our servers attention he said it was standard. I have never been charged for hot water at restaurant in my life! A nice touch would have been to comp my daughters espresso since our dessert was finished my the time it came- the whole experience ruined what should have been a memorable meal.

After Winter Storm Fern, my family was walking towards Central Park and I wrenched my knee in snow crossing the street. This restaurant was right there, so my family left me to rest there while they proceeded to our appointment. The waitstaff were very sweet and let me sit with a pot of tea and a bowl of fresh fruit until my family returned. We of course stayed for lunch and it was amazingly delicious (as might be expected of any good French restaurant). Highly recommend.

After a lovely afternoon wandering through Central Park and much needed shopping at Bergdorf Goodman, my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to a late lunch at this charming restaurant we stumbled upon. From the moment we walked in, the friendly staff made us feel right at home, and we were seated almost immediately. We kicked things off with the onion soup, and wow, it was fantastic! Rich and flavorful, with that perfect cheesy topping—it was the ultimate comfort food. Next up was the aged burger, which honestly was perfection on a plate. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right, it was one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. And then there was the spicy rigatoni a la vodka—oh my goodness, it was out of this world! The creamy sauce with just the right kick had us both raving about it. I was so blown away by the experience that I couldn’t help but text my parents, who are planning a trip to NYC in a couple of weeks. I told them they absolutely have to make this place a stop on their trip—it’s too good to miss! I can’t wait to come back and enjoy another meal here. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out. You won’t regret it!
