Sun Family
We brought the family here on an early Saturday morning to grab a few pastries and some much-needed coffee. After hearing countless recommendations from friends and neighbors, we finally decided it was time to see what all the buzz was about — and we’re so glad we did!

From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the cheerful staff at the front counter. Their friendly energy instantly made the place feel welcoming, and the service was both quick and efficient. Despite it being early in the day, the bakery was already lively with the comforting aroma of freshly baked pastries and coffee brewing in the background.

The pastry display was absolutely stunning — rows upon rows of perfectly golden, flaky, and artfully arranged treats. The variety was almost overwhelming (in the best way possible!), and we simply couldn’t decide on just one or two. In the end, we picked out six different pastries to share as a family, and every single one was delicious in its own way. Each bite felt thoughtfully made, with just the right balance of texture and flavor.

The croissants, in particular, were outstanding — beautifully layered, buttery, and crisp on the outside while remaining soft and airy inside. My personal favorite was the Maple Pecan Roll, which was rich, nutty, and had just the right touch of sweetness. Our youngest declared the Boston Cream Croissant his favorite, saying he could easily eat ten of them — and honestly, I believe him!

The coffee was excellent as well — smooth, aromatic, and the perfect complement to the pastries. The drink options were impressive, with something for everyone. The only small critique I have is the additional $0.75 charge for milk alternatives. Since non-dairy options like oat or almond milk are now quite comparable in price to regular milk, it might be nice to consider including them at the same base cost. Of course, it’s a minor suggestion, but it would be a thoughtful touch for those who prefer alternatives.

What really makes this spot special, though, is its charming neighborhood vibe. It feels like a true local gem — cozy, friendly, and unpretentious. I love that it’s so close to where we live, and selfishly, I almost hope the word doesn’t spread too fast! It’s the kind of place you want to keep as your own little secret, where you can always count on great coffee, fresh pastries, and a warm atmosphere.

We can’t wait to return and try even more from their menu. This will definitely be one of our new go-to weekend spots!

We got takeout Sammie’s and pastries. We arrived just after 10 AM and the store was busy. We were 7th in line. Selection was still good but going fast. The sandwiches were in a refrigerated case beside the pastry case. We really liked everything we purchased. Including the buttermilk peas g glazed scones. The meat on the smoked ham and cheese with pickles was delicious and made locally by a butcher. This was another great food experience. Delicious!

Boxcar has made my birthday cake for the past three years and it’s truly the best. Not overly sweet, great taste and unique flavors. I have also tried their sweets and they’re amazing, I especially love the almond croissant!

My goodness this place is phenomenal. Love the vibe, the aesthetic, the staff. I venture to Boxcar Bakery every Sunday for “pastry Sunday” and it is the highlight of my week. The scones are mind blowing, fluffy with a crisp outer edge. Strawberry basil scone is my current fav.

This place has absolutely divine baked goods. If we’re being candid, the coffee drinks might be a 4 out of 5 as some of them are a little milder than I prefer, but it is so well worth it to stop in. I’ve loved everything I’ve eaten!

My fiancé and I have been regular customers at Boxcar for a long time, and every experience has been outstanding with our pastries and coffee. We have tried a large majority of their items and everything is delicious, you simply cannot go wrong. The owners and staff provide excellent customer service and greet us with warm welcomes every visit. The only suggestion we would propose is that on the weekends (busiest times) to not allow computers or parking out at the very limited amount of tables to allow more customers to sit down and enjoy their breakfast. We would also love to see a rewards program started for us frequent visitors!

This is my espresso shop! Hands down. I frequent only one other shop in the area, but this is my go to. Food is always spot on and always something new and exciting to try. I really appreciate the sandwiches, soup and salads, when I need a quick bite. We all need a place we can feel at home to cut the day to day grind. No pun intended! The girls run a top notch business.

My only wish? That the space was larger and that they opened one in Underhill!

decisions decisions… about what pastries to get but not about visiting here! if you’re in the area this a must go! the space is bright and open with wifi and outlets so it’s great to do work or study, and the windows look out onto the street so also great for people watching. you can sneak a peek at the baking magic in the back and it smells amazing.

Love the pastry options and the big windows. Was so popular that there was a continuous line but perhaps because it was Valentine’s Day. Delicious Walnut swirl pastry and regular plain light roast coffee was unexpectedly very good!

Everything here is delicious!! I will say that the coffee is not my favorite but the matcha is good! Their speciality is 100% the pastries. The cupcakes are amazing, croissants, and soups!
