Stopped by to pick up my order and had such a great experience. The food looked amazing, especially the beautiful platter they had on display.
I ordered the crispy chicken with fried rice, egg roll, and broccoli, and it was fresh, flavorful, and very satisfying. The presentation was great too.
The staff were incredibly kind—they let me take pictures and even gave me a complimentary bowl of soup, which was such a thoughtful gesture.
Great food and excellent customer service. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I didn’t even know this restaurant was here until I happened to drive by it this afternoon while running errands. The website is pretty basic (I think it’s just a Google site or something similar) but when I walked in, the vibe was bright and cheery.
More importantly, I realized quickly that this is a Szechuan restaurant, which is amazing since that’s my preference for Chinese food, and there really aren’t any Szechuan restaurants close to here (north Arlington Heights / Buffalo Grove / Wheeling area)
Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I tried my two go-to dishes: Szechuan Wontons and Spicy Cumin Lamb. Both were on point, with wonderfully warming spices and, in the case of the lamb, slightly numbing as well.
The lamb was very nicely cooked, and the wontons were quite light like they should be, with floppy corners that can sop up the chili oil and other spices & seasonings.
Please don’t take my three stars for service and atmosphere as criticisms of this restaurant! It’s a pretty typical interior (somewhere between “hole in the wall” and “fancy”) and the service was fine, although I had a bit of trouble communicating with my server, although he was very friendly.
I did get to meet & chat with the owner for a minute: A very lovely woman who told me she has other restaurants in Chinatown, Niles and Oswego.
I’m so happy that Bowl of Fortune is nearby, and I imagine I’ll be going there regularly.

We’ve been here a few times and are still so happy to have authentic Szechuan Chinese here in the Northern burbs! It’s about time!!
So, I will say this, there can be some “misses” on the menu, specifically if you try and stick to American- style Chinese or you aren’t prepared for the level of authentic spice in some of the dishes. We’ve tried quite a few and here’s what our experience was like:
House Special Beef Noodle Soup – Outstanding! The broth, which is more like hotpot broth and less like drinkable broth, is a bit oily and perfectly spicy if it is served the authentic way, but it is not too spicy, so don’t be afraid to try it. The beef is super flavorful and compliments the noodles perfectly. Are they handmade noodles? Not likely, but they are still really great at soaking up that rich broth flavor.
Spicy Cumin Lamb – we both did the Mark Weins face with our first bite. Need I say more??? Get this!
Stir Fried Beef with Peppers – this is a miss for us, too bland. If you are coming here for something that isn’t spicy, this may work for you.
Spicy & Sour Sliced Potatoes- this is a staple dish we order, so perfect every time and refreshing when you are ordering other spicy dishes. Highly recommend!
Green Peppercorns with Crisp Fish Filet- this was good, but the spice level quickly became too much for us.
Mapo Tofu – really good, crazy spicy, but my husband is addicted to it.
Tofu is Salted Egg Yolk – odd flavor, not our style, perhaps this is an acquired taste?
Eggplant in Garlic Sauce – this is usually one of our staples, but the balance was off when we ordered. Far too much vinegar in the sauce to enjoy.
Yangzhou Fried Rice – order this with some of the dishes we have raved about above, like the Beef Noodle Soup or a meat dish. It is such a great compliment to the spicy dishes and mixed well with everything. Good wok hei in it as well!
Twice Cooked Pork – amazing when you take some of the pork and green onion and mix it with the Yangzhou Fried Rice. I definitely recommend those two together. The pork by itself can taste (and smell) a little too “porky” but when mixed makes a perfect accompaniment to the fried rice.
Sesame Balls – a table of the most adorable Chinese ladies, who are originally from Szechuan, fed us some of these. It was so sweet of them. I was, as usual, the only non-Asian in the place, so they wanted to share their dessert. The sesame balls are incredible, so save room for a slightly sweet after-meal treat.
Overall, we highly recommend this place. The staff is so friendly, the food is authentic and amazing, and you’ll find yourself addicted to those peppercorns pretty quickly!

Eggplant with garlic, hot pot combo (with lots of variety of protein) and lamb with cumin were all very delicious. The milk tea was authentic Chinese flavor. The food is Chinese Chinese said my Chinese friend who dined with me. Haha. The staff spoke Chinese to many Chinese speaking customers that are good sign to this place being authentic. Lots of spicy food options here as well as non spicy ones to choose too.
The service is slow and the technological backdrops in the background need some updates but for the authentic food I definitely want to come back.

A Sichuan friend recommended this restaurant to me, and it was such a pleasant surprise! It’s really hard to find such authentic Sichuan food in the U.S., but Bowl of Fortune truly delivers. The restaurant is very clean, which makes me feel comfortable bringing my kid here. The owner is also very friendly and welcoming. Definitely a place we’ll keep coming back to!

The Bowl of Fortune has a fantastic selection of good eats. Two things to note: 1) Service is really slow, so be patient. Heard about this restaurant opening in the same plaza as HD Cuisine (great Malaysian food). For those of us that don’t live close enough to Schaumburg options, so glad to have an authentic Chinese restaurant opening up north.
Since we were celebrating Chinese New Year, we ordered a little extra:
– If you’re a fan of spicy food you’ll find a lot of amazing dishes like the preserved egg in chili oil, handmade dumplings in chili oil, and I saw other Szechuan dishes we’ll have to try next time.
– Non-spicy options like the stewed pork belly and the steamed whole fish were really good.
– Yangzhou (combination) fried rice was very good and not overly salty or oily. The lo mein we got for the kids was unfortunately greasy and salty even though the waiter noted the preferences in their system; will have to try the other noodle or rice dishes.
We came early on Sunday night and the restaurant filled up quickly. Sometimes you had to flag a server down, but otherwise the service was friendly and bustling.

Well, this place rocks, its no joke! They got a great thing going here if you like Chinese food. Came in a Saturday night and it was packed. The lazy Susan spinning tables are a great touch for larger groups, plus its a great way to irritate family members you dont like… So many options you will not go home hungry (at least not for a few hours). Try the smoothies!

Most authentic Sichuan food in northwest suburbs! I literally just came back from Chengdu yesterday. This is a perfect “soft landing” for me. I ordered three typical Sichuan dishes, and they are as authentic as they can be. Absolutely DELICIOUS !!! The chefs are all from Sichuan. The service was fantastic as well.
