We started with the Black Truffle Bread, which honestly deserves its own standing ovation: warm, impossibly soft, layered with truffle butter, chives, and Maldon sea salt. It’s the kind of bread you plan to save room for…and then immediately abandon that plan.
The Michael Mina Tuna Tartare was pristine and perfectly balanced, followed by the Orchard Apple Salad, which added a bright, crisp contrast to what was shaping up to be a very decadent evening.
The star of the night was the 40 oz Salt-Baked & Bourbon-Flamed Australian Wagyu Tomahawk—dramatic, beautifully executed, and bursting with flavor. Rich, tender, and unforgettable. Pair that with a flawless dirty martini and an excellent wine selection, and you’re officially living your best life.
Service was truly exceptional. The entire team was attentive, knowledgeable, and polished, but a special shoutout to Boyan, the GM, who stopped by our table to check in. An extra shoutout to Ipeleng who helped curate our experience even further. That kind of genuine hospitality makes an already outstanding meal feel personal and memorable.
Finally, the decor—absolutely gorgeous. Sophisticated, warm, and inviting, it sets the perfect tone for a special night out.
Bourbon Steak isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience, and one we’ll be thinking about (and craving) for a long time.
As for the food, the most memorable dish we had was the Maine lobster pot pie. My husband still raves about this dish from time to time. Everything in this dish was delicious! It was just unfortunate how the other servers were walking behind the cart and we couldn’t quite pay full attention to the unveiling of the pie.
We got the bone in ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. It paired very well with the mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. We were so full that we only ate a few slices of the steak but it was still good even as leftovers.
We didn’t know the fries were complimentary and probably would’ve ordered less food if we had down. The fries and sauces were crunchy and loaded with flavors. The wedge salad was delicious and one of our favorites.
Now the black truffle bread. I wasn’t sure if we made the right choice to have one each but thank goodness we did. It was soooo good and I wanted more. We got the tuna tartare and it was our least favorite.
As for the drinks, we tried a few and some were very stiff and not that memorable. The only one we really liked was the international smoke.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and all the staff were nice and attentive. There’s so many other food we want to try off the menu and plan to come back with a group to eat more.
The bone in Rib Eye looks perfect but if I hadn’t ordered steak sauce with it I would have been really upset. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was closer to medium – no big deal, but it…. It lacked juiciness and flavor unless it was a bit with fat. I think I just expected more for it at this price point. It was good, but not amazing.
The French onion soup was a hit. The mashed potatoes were good but not great, onion rings were a hit as well.
You get complimentary fries with duck fat made differently and with different sauces. It was great.
The truffle bread is a must get. Absolutely incredible.
The drinks were fantastic. The staff were incredibly attentive, helpful, and had that high end level of service that sets the place apart.
Despite me not being 100% stoked on my steak, I would still have no problem going back. The experience was wonderful.
The service throughout the night was impeccable, and several staff members even offered to take photos for us, which made the experience feel even more personal and special. The ambiance was refined and elegant, yet comfortable, making it the perfect setting for a memorable night out.
The food was outstanding, and the combination of exceptional service, beautiful presentation, and attention to detail truly made this restaurant stand out. I would absolutely return and highly recommend Bourbon Steak San Francisco to anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in the city.
We were a party of six with a 6:30 PM reservation and 8:30 PM tickets nearby, so timing mattered.
The space is gorgeous — we had a beautiful corner table overlooking Union Square (pics below, but I cropped our party out). The steak and whipped potatoes were excellent.
Unfortunately, service and pacing were a serious issue. We weren’t seated promptly, and once seated, we waited quite a while before seeing our server. When I finally asked him to take my cocktail order, he said he’d be right back but never returned — which is why I eventually went to the bar myself. A second cocktail ordered later was also forgotten.
Both bottles of wine we selected were unavailable, and we were steered toward more expensive options. One guest received a cold entrée but chose not to send it back to avoid further delays.
Because of the extended pacing, we missed our 8:30 show entirely and lost the cost of six tickets. After reviewing my credit card statement, I was also surprised to see that the single Negroni I’d ordered at the bar came to $55.40 after charges, which was not communicated in advance.
I tried reaching out privately to both the restaurant and the parent company afterward but never received a response and had bounce-backs. There’s a lot of potential here, but the service experience needs improvement to match the price point.
I ordered the NY filet 14 oz, which was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, and beautifully enhanced by the truffle butter. The truffle macaroni was a standout, rich and comforting, reminiscent of a homemade classic. The caviar toro was one of the most exquisite dishes I’ve ever had, elevated, balanced, and flavorful. The truffle burrata offered a unique, decadent twist, and the mushroom soup was deep, earthy, and layered.
The International Smoke 2025 cocktail is clearly a crowd favorite and lived up to the hype—one of the most elegant and well-balanced drinks I’ve had in San Francisco. For dessert, the Beignets with three dipping sauces were an absolute showstopper. Every bite was warm, fluffy, and perfectly sweet.
Service was exceptional—Yazmin was attentive, knowledgeable, and added to the elevated dining experience.
If you’re searching for the best steakhouse in San Francisco, top-tier truffle dishes, elevated cocktails in San Francisco, and a memorable fine dining experience, Bourbon Steak is a must. I fully expect this spot to become one of the top restaurants in the Bay Area very soon.
Everything we ate was delicious— the steaks were fantastic, but all of the small details, from the fries and sauces to the sides, to the desserts, were extremely well executed. We loved every cocktail that came to the table. Our server Ipeleng was a delight, very knowledgeable and she guided us well. Can’t wait to go back and eat that Caesar salad again.
