I had asked if the seafood boil was spicy and she mentioned it was a little bit. I love spice and boils so I ordered it.
Food took the longest to arrive but we were told it was related to the fryers having to be reset, not a big deal to us as we were not in a rush.
When the food arrived, the boil had no seasoning. Even my friends who recommended trying the place were bewildered. I ended up facing them all try a piece and they agreed it was the most disappointing thing they’ve seen.
Frog legs were relatively okay, but the fries had to most seasoning. I ended up having to put hot sauce and salt/pepper just to have some sort of flavor on the corn, potatoes and shrimp.
My friends fried chicken and seafood plate was good though, so maybe stick to their fried foods.
Boudreaux’s is a family-owned, one-off eatery in the heart of Newcastle.. We used Google Maps to find it because is doesn’t have much street presence, but we found it to be worth the search..
I sampled the two-piece bone-in chicken basket.. I received a breast and thigh fresh from the fryer and lightly seasoned.. Both the white and dark meat were quite deelish and very juicy.. My pinto beans and coleslaw sides were great, too.. The grilled bread was a nice touch and rounded out my meal quite well..
My wife had their two-piece chicken tender basket.. Both tenders were amply sized and they were fresh from the fryer, lightly seasoned, and tasted as great as the bone-in chicken.. Her onion rings may have been a bit overdone, but they hit the mark, regardless..
I found Boudreaux’s to be a very reasonably priced establishment for the portions served and the service was great.. Our server was very attentive, offered us drink refills often, and was very pleasant..
We’re already looking forward to our next visit so we can sample another of their menu offerings..
The fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and tots were great though.
I might give it another try, but I definitely cannot recommend the chicken strips or frog legs.
My husband got the Catfish Acadiana, perfect!
Pictured is the crawfish étouffée and red beans and rice, both offered in a cup or bowl. We also enjoyed Boudin balls as an appetizer but, we ate them before we could get a picture! Make sure you get some Boudreaux’s sauce! Delicious!
