Had to swing by Boudin SF Sourdough in Irvine, CA since it’s right on the way to the airport. Couldn’t resist my all-time fave soups—clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl… and a bowl of broccoli cheddar.
Nothing fancy, just pure comfort food. Love it—always worth the stop!

We ordered from the kiosk so I can’t rate the customer service. We ordered 2 bread bowls, Caesar salad and a pepperoni pizza. We got back to our hotel and everything was in the bag! Thankful for that. However, the pizza looked a bit strange. It honestly looked and tasted like it was pieced together with old slices. Reminded me of Chuck E. Cheese pizza. It didn’t taste freshly made. Very disappointed. The rest of the food was good.

Update: I was so so excited to try the new french onion melt. Like ridiculously excited. This is what showed up at my door – like 6 onions and no cheese, and rock hard bread (I ate part of the bread before I got so sad that I had to take a picture ). I would love to try the real thing at some point but y’all, I’m so sad about the decline of the food lately. ☹️
Boudin is one of our absolute favorite places to order from. Buuuut, the food is never consistent. Sometimes the hot sandwiches or melts are burnt and sometimes the cheese isn’t even melted. Sometimes a milkshake is really milky, sometimes it’s way too thick (it’s not that it’s melted vs colder, it’s the taste that’s noticeable.) I mean, as much as I’m complaining you’d think I’d just stop eating here but when they do it right, it’s so good!

It’s Boudin Sourdough! Good service. Simple vibe. A variety of bread soup bowl options, and sammiches. We had a clam chowder and a butternut squash bread bowl. Hot soup. Fresh bread bowl. Straightforward. This chain is a step above fast food and is its own specialty. Parking is confusing, but we followed signs for “retail parking.”

I had the personal size pizza and found it really good. The sauce,cheese and crust tasted great. My wife had the clam chowder bowl and it was also very good. Baked bread here is also freshly made with all sorts of variations.

I popped in to buy some sourdough to take home. Service was fast and friendly. I bought my bread and walked out with no hassles. The experience this day didn’t go any deeper than that, and it didn’t need to. It was the perfect transaction.

I loved my yummy sour dough chowder bread bowl. My hubby did not like the pork chipotle sandwich and his salad was drenched in dressing (remember to ask for dressing on the side!). Service was ok, but there was no ice in the drink machine.
