I was disappointed with Bottle Hill Tavern in Madison, NJ. To start, the menu is quite big and has a lot of choices which is good. My party of 2 ordered a build your own burger and Cobb Salad. The burger was a bit underwhelming, not enough juice from the meat (I ordered medium rare, and it was medium well, it was not juicy enough unfortunately). I didn’t like that the pickles, tomatoes and lettuce is on the side and not incorporated into the burger (personal preference but could be considered). The tomato was sour and tasted like it went bad. I ordered raw onions but was served with sautéed. Fries were not good – they were too soft for fries. The salad was alright. The service was very dismissive and a bit rude at times. It got better by the end but it was seen that staff was a bit annoyed. The seating outside is available which is a plus!

Sat at the bar. Place is very small. The high top tables are very small. The fried pickles were heavily breaded. More breading than pickle. The old bay wings had good flavor but the drums were way over cooked. The pulled pork sandwich was good but they offer no side with it like chips or fries. The crab cakes were flavorful but they were burned on the bottoms.

I do not recommend this establishment. I ordered French toast (which is pretty impossible to mess up) and it came out burnt. It was very thin and tasted like char. I sent it back and then got barbecue boneless wings instead which were also disappointing. The barbecue sauce tasted disgusting and the chicken itself was pretty hard and hard to cut through. I will not be coming back.

Had the French dip which was terrific, the potato skins were excellent and the fries with cheese and gravy were fantastic! Anne Marie was one of our servers and is an absolute Delight. The only complaint I would have is the tables for two are a little small and the chairs are uncomfortable.
Not enough televisions at the bar

I went to bottle Hill Tavern with a friend and we both had a great time and great meals. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed perfect for catching up over dinner. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We shared potato skins with broccoli as an appetizer and both loved our meals. Everything came out as expected. The drink selection was also great. We did not order alcohol, but they seem to have had a great selection on tap specifically their own beer. It feels like the kind of place you can either go for a casual night out or a low-key dinner date. We will definitely be back next time. We are in Madison!

Good tavern food. Best thing I had was the fried soft shell crab. It was fried and seasoned really nice and served with my choice of 2 sides and a remoulade sauce (which was good) and lemon. I was very happy with that but glad I also got a fried chicken sandwich because it was not an entree , atleast not for me. The fried chicken sandwich was not the best , it came with some assembly required (which I’m not a fan of). It had lettuce, pickles, tomato , and cucumber on the side and none of that was on the menu. On the menu it said it had a cucumber slaw , and also a remoulade sauce. So that was a little confusing. It was fried nice but just a little dry so the remoulade was handy. Boneless wings had a nice honey buffalo sauce but also a little dry. Sweet potato fries were crispy. Waffle fries were crispy but no seasoning. They have a good variety of food on the menu for a tavern. Not too many beers to choose from. Lots of seating inside and out. Overall good experience. Friendly service , I’d go back and try a burger.

The atmosphere, location, and prices are the top reasons to come to BHT. Wonderful atmosphere packed with people all wanting a good Sunday afternoon. The prices are very affordable given this post COVID economy and the surge in food prices created by these ridiculous tariffs. The food was underwhelming. I went there for brunch. Not sure if the chefs need more training or they need to use better ingredients or both. IHOP makes better omelets. However, I would definitely return and recommend to friends because IHOP is well a franchise. This place is a great restaurant for the economy prices that most can afford. Three of us ate brunch and with a 20% tip our total meal was only $66.

A reasonably priced Restaurant with big portions. Great atmosphere, indoors and out.Variety of liquor and beers options to choose from. Menu is not too big, with a lot of good selections even for vegetarians. The service was fast. staff was really attentive and welcoming. We ordered house hummus which comes with pita and veggies (delicious). Also deviled eggs which had a kick from jalapeño it’s was super delicious . Will return again to try the entrees.
