With the soul of a snow covered lodge and the repose of a sun soaked beach house, Bostwick Lake Inn sits aside the tranquil waters of Bostwick Lake on the outskirts of Rockford, Michigan. A century’s worth of history and character can be felt amongst the warm hues and knotty pine of the BLI. The four season deck is the favored spot for dining, with the option to enjoy a craft beer or cocktail on the beach during warm weather months. The restaurant menu is highlighted by farm fresh fare, smoked tinged shareables and imaginative takes on traditional American cuisine. Whether you are seeking a destination for new adventures or a haven away from the daily grind–know that you can always escape to the lake.

The food that steals the show. The Wagyu steak is melt-in-your-mouth tender, expertly cooked, and plated with the kind of care you expect from a top-tier steakhouse, not a cozy lakeside inn. All at the cost of 4 coffee grandes.
The bar program is outstanding, with a deep cocktail list that includes beautifully made Old Fashioneds and dessert-style coffee drinks.
An Old Fashioned with brandy feels right at home here, especially when sipped lakeside or near the fireplace, and the Spanish coffee is an ideal sweet finish to a meal. Spanish coffee is a showstopper—warm, boozy, and dessert‑worthy, the perfect nightcap when you are not ready to leave the shoreline just yet.
It is the kind of place where you linger over one more drink just to soak in the view a little longer.
Service is warm, attentive, and professional, with staff who know the menu, can steer you to the right cocktail, and keep things moving even on busy nights. Shoutout to Deanna our server!
Live sets by Everett Domeier add exactly the right energy: polished guitar work, strong vocals, and a song list that keeps guests humming along without overpowering conversation. With Everett playing, a plate of Wagyu, pork on the table, a brandy old fashioned in hand, and a Spanish coffee to close, Bostwick Lake Inn turns into the kind of lakeside night out people rave about and recommend to everyone they know.
We really were hoping that we could also give it a very positive review but sadly, we were quite disappointed.
We found ourselves seated in a bit of a side hallway area back by the doorway to the kitchen. It was very cold (had to keep our jackets on) and noisy, with old tables, and definitely has a very different environment/feel than the rest of the restaurant.
The frustrating thing, was that because we were only a party of two, we weren’t allowed to make reservations, only to find out when we arrived that we also weren’t able to be seated in the nicer part of the restaurant due to them having to hold tables for the larger party reservations coming in later. It definitely puts a smaller dining party at a major disadvantage. It didn’t at all feel like we were out for a nice meal.
Our server was wonderful—very friendly and helpful, but our food was quite disappointing, especially given the fact that we paid about $30 a plate.
I chose one of the dishes of the day which was lukewarm, and it came with only four shrimp. My husband’s walleye was very tasty, but the potatoes that came on the side had a very odd flavor, almost chemical-like— it was noticeable enough to the point where he only took a couple bites and didn’t eat the rest. We didn’t have time to ask for anything different due to being on a tighter timeline.
I guess we were just expecting a lot more both food and ambiance-wise from a restaurant that is part of the Gilmore collection with pricier menu options. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will be back.
Don’t send out dried up carrots on an $18 appetizer, lol
Everything else was excellent!
Outdoor seating is right on the lake, and it is nice.
Highly recommend, and this will be a regular spot for my daughter and I.
