I heard about Borsh House at a recent food convention & knew I had to check it out. We were visiting Eau Claire from Milwaukee & we decided to take a drive out to Altoona to check out the spot!
It’s located inside “The Yard”, a super cool shipping-container food park with a colorful atmosphere & fun vibe.
It’s a family-run spot with such a kind, sweet family behind it. Everything is cooked fresh & the menu has so many unique options.
The prices were amazing for the quality (maybe even UNDER priced)! Our favorite dish was definitely the Pelmeni dumplings….so delicious & full of flavor! We also tried the desserts, which were fantastic & also loved the spiced mulled drink they offered.
Borsh House feels special, one of those places worth going out of your way for. I highly recommend that all foodies & influencers make the trip to Altoona just to experience it. And of course, I encourage the locals to check it out! You won’t regret it.

This was our family’s first time not only at The Borsch House, but eating Ukrainian cuisine in general and all was wonderful!! Professional service, very clean facility, and the food was quite delicious, flavorful, and fresh. I appreciated that the menu included an explanation of each item, as these dishes were all new to me. I wasn’t sure how my young, picky kiddos would do, but once I convinced them to try the food, they were pleasantly surprised. The Container Yard itself is a unique experience. There are restrooms, a drinking fountain, a decent amount of seating on the patio, a sand volleyball court, and air conditioned seating overlooking “the yard.” We will be returning to The Borsch House in the future and definitely recommend this restaurant!

I had the Lazy Cabbage Rolls combo (loved the fresh warm Pampushka) and a Benderyk. The food was very flavorful and filling. Portion sizes are very generous. I will be definitely returning to try other items on the menu in the near future. Ukrainian food equals comfort food. Warm and delicious!

The plov was Yummy and I had enough left over for a snack later. The pampushka bun is fantastic! It’s fluffy soft with a garlic butter brushed on top. So good!

Coming from the other side of the state, my daughter suggested my wife and I go with them to “The Yard” for supper. First of all, we loved Altoona’s “The Yard” and then 3 of us ordered 2 orders of the Borsch combo and the New Combo (w/ cabbage rolls) plus dessert, etc. The Ukranian food was fabulous. We loved the flavors. The cabbage rolls on mashed potatoes w/ sauce were the best I’ve ever had. My mom called them “pigs in a blanket.” The crimson salad made of cabbage was very tasty. The borsch was delightful as was the cappucino waffle. The owners/chefs were so nice and what a treat to buy their great food. We’ll definitely come back to try more tasty Ukranian dishes.

The Ukrainian food at this unassuming spot in Altoona is to die for – especially for those who appreciate cuisine that is full of flavor without being “too salty” or “too sweet” … they achieve perfect balance with their dishes. The borsch is probably the best soup in the Eau Claire area. Highly recommend.

I went to The Borsch House for the first time, and it was the perfect hot comfort food on a drizzly, cold October day! I ordered the borsch combo and the cabbage rolls combo so I could try a bit of everything, along with a cortado and the medovyk (honey cake). While I waited for my food to be prepared, I got to learn a bit of Ukrainian from the friendly guy at the window. Everything tasted great and was very hearty and flavorful. I’ll definitely be back.
