We started with the pane focaccia, arancini, and Caesar Tonnata. The focaccia was definitely the standout—simple but full of flavor. The arancini was solid, and the salad had a more authentic style to it, which some people will really appreciate. I had an Aperol Spritz with the apps, which was made well.
For entrées, we had the Chicken Milanese Panino and the carbonara. Both dishes had good flavor and were prepared well. The carbonara had a rich sauce without being too heavy, and the chicken was a quality cut and cooked nicely.
We finished with the tiramisu, which was one of the better ones I’ve had—light, not overly sweet, and good texture.
On the way out, we actually saw Stephen Starr sitting at a table eating with some of his staff, which was cool to see from an owner with a schedule like his—shows he’s involved and present.
Overall, it was a good experience. The food was enjoyable, service was friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable. Worth checking out if you’re looking to try a newer spot in Philly.
Both the food and the wine were outstanding — thoughtfully prepared and beautifully enjoyed.
Scott, our server, took great care of us, and Basil, the manager, checked in and made us feel genuinely welcome.
We’ll be back in a couple of weeks.
We were seated fairly quickly, but unfortunately, the table was right by the doorway. With all the incoming and outgoing traffic—and the cold air—we weren’t fans of that spot. When we asked if it was possible to be seated elsewhere, we were told it would be about a 30-minute wait. Since we didn’t want to wait by the stairs, they mentioned there was also a bar upstairs.
As we headed upstairs, Caleb immediately ran after us and seated us at a booth table. Let’s talk about hospitality—can we please give him a raise?! He was an absolute sweetheart the entire night.
Once seated, we ordered espresso martinis right away. They were definitely strong, so we added a shot of Baileys, which made them perfect. Our server, Ben, was amazing as well—super patient, especially since we took a while to order and stayed all the way until closing LOL.
For appetizers, we ordered the Focaccia Di Recco, which was light, airy, cheesy, flaky, and absolutely delicious. I’m glad we chose this instead of regular bread because I needed the space for my main course. We also ordered the arancini—we expected two and were ready to split them, but three came out, which worked out perfectly. They were so good and cheesy. The crudo had a nice tangy flavor, and as a crudo lover, I definitely approved. The star of the appetizers was the polpo arrostito—sooooo good, especially paired with the hummus.
For mains, we all ordered pasta and shared the steak tagliata, which ended up being my absolute favorite. The steak paired with the arugula was chef’s kiss. I ordered the 100-layer lasagna, which didn’t have meat (totally fine with me). It was tasty, though more of a classic, straightforward lasagna. One cousin ordered the carbonara (I couldn’t try it since it has pork), but she said it was delicious and finished the entire plate. My other cousin ordered the oxtail mafaldine, which was sweet, flavorful, and had an amazing pasta texture—I absolutely loved it.
For dessert, we ordered the Limone di Amalfi. It was definitely picture-worthy, but a bit too sour for my taste. It was okay, but I’d definitely go for the tiramisu next time.
My cousins and I hadn’t seen each other in over six months, so it was really nice to sit, catch up, and enjoy our girls’ night. Thank you to the staff for being so patient, letting us enjoy our time, and not rushing us out. We were literally the last table there—and as we walked out, they locked the door right behind us (LOL).
Overall, my experience at Borromini was amazing. The staff was kind, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was beautiful. The manager even checked on us and introduced himself, which was very thoughtful. We tried to get a free shot (didn’t work ), but that’s okay!
I’ll definitely be back.
Finally came in for lunch after letting the hype of not being able to get a reservation died down. Started with an espresso martini which was rich, creamy and a tad sweet. It was great.
We got the spaghetti al limone and chicken milanese sandwich. The spaghetti was al dente, light, tart and all around delicious. The chicken milanese was so juicy and tender, yet still crispy. The greens and aioli rounded out the sandwich. The bread was soft and scooped so it didn’t overpower. Extremely well executed.
The tiramisu was a miss. I prefer mine more moist so it melts in my mouth, this was on the dryer side. I wouldn’t recommend it.
I think it’s a lovely place with great ambiance. It didn’t knock my socks off, but we are blessed with so many amazing Italian restaurants in Philly. This one is unique in the way you truly feel transported to Italy.
Food was really good with a wide selection of classic Italian dishes. Something for everyone!
Cool atmosphere. Second floor has views of the park across the street.
I will return!
