Border Grill

  4.2 – 193 reviews   • Fast food restaurant

Border Grill was founded in 1997 with the goal of bringing a fresher, healthier alternative to the restaurant spectrum in Marquette. Clearly, the market was ready for “real” food in our fast-casual” format, as we have grown to four locations serving the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is very gratifying for all of us at Border Grill to hear the passion that our guests have about our restaurants.

Finally able to stop in and try something from the breakfast menu and was not disappointed at all. Picked up something for me and my husband and we both loved the Three Pigs bowl! Very good portion and price was extremely fair. I also ordered the Smelter burrito. Every was delcious. Was told breakfast will not longer be an option after this week. Bummer!

A very good place to eat, their staff was friendly, helpful, and all around good. Some of their ordering capabilities where down for maintenance, but the ordering process was still efficient and effective. Clean facilities, very good food, still don’t know what their “salsa” was. It looked like cheese but tasted like Campbell’s tomato soup.

Border Grill offers great Mexican cuisine! The restaurant has a wide selection of dishes to choose from and they are all delicious. The service is always outstanding and the atmosphere is very friendly. The prices are a little high, but the portions are generous. Highly recommend!

I have been a fan of the Border Grill since the first location opened in Marquette, MI in the 90s. My go-to meal is the steak quesadilla. I just love it! The chips were always a favorite too, but Border Grill had to change their chips in the last year due to a supplier no longer carrying the original product. The new chips are not as tasty to me but still aren’t bad. The remainder of the menu is still just as good as it was all those years ago. And now, there is a Houghton location too, which means I no longer have to wait to drive through Negaunee or Marquette to enjoy one of my favorite UP eateries. I highly recommend the Border Grill in all it’s locations. And they offer gift cards!!

I mean -if you are stuck in an area where no authentic Mexican restaurants exist ,and you are dying for Mexican you could try going here. Its definitely a step up from Taco Bell. The menu offers interesting options, as well as a variety of burritos and tacos ,each with varying degrees of toppings and proteins. Unfortunately the burrito tortillas are super thick, hard, and taste stale. It was enough to ruin the whole burrito for me .( I ultimately disassembled it and ate the inside only.) Another drawback is they that they offer a horrid cheese sauce that you may order spicy or non spicy and that unfortunately ruins anything it touches as well. The best thing to go with are the corn tortilla tacos . I ordered the fish taco which they typically serve fried but I opted to have it grilled and it turned out very good. The atmosphere is pleasant and the cashier was very nice, although the table next to me ,on their way to the soda machine, ended up dropping their drink all over the floor and not only did the customer not try to clean it up nor did any of the staff. Finally after about 20 min. the cashier came out and placed a wet floor sign over the spill and the wet floor continued to remain (only now a sign over a big puddle) while everyone trudged through it to get to the soda machine. Intresting !

We never heard of Border Grill until we spent a night in Houghton. We were very impressed with their service and menu selection. We found it to be the Chipotle of the Keweenaw peninsula and so much better. The inside looks like a good sit down place making it nicer to be in than any Qdoba or Chipotle I’ve been in. Our family of seven ordered the Build A Bowl Pack and a salad. Very delicious and satisfying. We just wish a Border Grill existed in Minnesota.

Great food. Think a mix between Chipotle and taco bell but nicer with high quality ingredients. Usually get served

Have ordered take out before & was always very good. Don’t know what happened today, but both salads were not quite right. Avocobbo used to have sliced avocado-not anymore? Then don’t call it avocobbo! Round bottom of sliced lettuce in one salad, mine had no pepitas, dressing tasted a little off. Please do better with your quality and/or training. Today was a disappointment for us, will wait a bit & try again sometime.

I like the food offered, which is Mexican. Often, I try their limited time food. The last time I went, the special I ordered was dry and chewy. It was ok and did have a good flavor.

I’d heard pretty good things about Border Grill but I’d never had a chance to try it in Marquette. Luckily they brought their good food to Houghton! The fuego quesadilla was really good and I got a LOT of food for the price.
