Good BBQ at Bono’s. The BBQ family fest and add St. Louis Ribs to it you can eat for 2 days in a row. I did a pound of pull pork and made some Cuban sandwiches the next morning.

It’s rustic but clean. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d want in a southern BBQ joint. The food is pretty quick and the service is great! You can’t go wrong with any of the meat choices or the sides. Great portions and if you want a bit more you can upgrade to more meat for a few bucks. The seating and parking is plentiful enough and it’s not hard to find. I highly recommend this location. I have been to all of the Bono’s in town and this one is my favorite. It feels genuine and comforting. Don’t forget to get some banana pudding after your meal, you won’t regret it!

Bono’s is a must when passing through JAX. This location has fallen off all the way around. The server was more concerned with cleaning and sweeping. One order was wrong. We were not offered refills while dining. I had to get her attention to let her know we were finished. No handwashing soap in ladies room. Ladies room needed cleaning. Ribs were tough, turkey was salty and Mac n cheese was pasty. Collards were ok. This is my 1st negative experience. I have faith in the other locations. I will try Bono’s again…just not this location!

️ What I Ordered: Brisket with green beans and baked beans
My Experience:
The moment you step out of your car, you’re greeted with that incredible smoky aroma, the kind that instantly makes you hungry. The building itself has that well-loved, been-here-for-years charm, and the inside has a rustic, old-school BBQ vibe. You can see the open pits working behind the counter with smoke rolling out, which really sets the tone.
My server was super friendly and welcoming. The brisket was lean, I personally prefer a little more fat, but it was still tender and flavorful. The green beans were so good I could have made a meal out of them alone.
Highlight: The unbeatable smoke smell and authentic BBQ atmosphere.
Would I Return? Absolutely, next time I’ll be back to try the ribs.

Passing through Jacksonville today I had to stop at my favorite bbq joint in the state of Florida! The first time I ate here was 50 years ago and it’s as good now as it was then. I had sausage and pork, with baked beans and collards. All delicious! My girlfriend had pork, mac & cheese and Brunswick stew which she loved. Don’t miss a chance to get great bbq at a classic location.

I love the aroma that welcomes you as you enter the parking lot. Opening the door and walking in, you are greeted with the feeling of a real BBQ restaurant, including the aroma of the open pit. It made me feel happy!
I had the brisket platter with beans and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was very good. It’s was a nice balance with just the right amount of cheese. The beans had little pieces of meat in them. I would have liked them more if there were a little more meatier.
The brisket was a little on the fatty side, but that is brisket. Sometimes, it’s a lean cut or a fatty cut. I enjoyed the brisket. It had a nice color to it, and a wonder taste.
This is our favorite BBQ in Jacksonville!

Every single time i order from this bonos something is messed up. Either my extra sauce i PAY for is not in the bag or is but isnt filled up even half way or they include ZERO sauce even the barbecue sauce which comes with the meal.. This time i ordered and its going to be my last i got 4 sliced SMALL pieces of brisket. My ranches were barley even filled up like i know what your brisket platter is supposed to look like and getting 3 slices is absolutely ridiculous. This is just plain out laziness from the workers. I work in the food industry i know how it is but come on its not difficult to fill the ranches to the correct amount or put the right amount of food in the plate. I paid 32$ for a brisket platter and 2 extra ranches to get 12$ worth of food. And i cant even get my money back through uber eats. Maybe dont be lazy when making food and think about if youd wanna open your bag to receive this ridiculous order after paying that much! Do better. Seriously

Okay so I’m 67 male in Jax all my life and eaten at most Bonos in town.
So I called Merrill Road location to talk about my experience with their (so called) very dry pulled pork which is actually chopped with a chef’s knife as I sat at the bar and watched several orders of chopped pork being prepared. What a shame to destroy good meat.
The manager I talked to admitted they have been having problems with the pork being chewy and dry so they chop it and have been meeting on this for quite some time.
I suggest they should get a professional most smoker chef cause it ain’t that hard folks.
Low and slow till it meets temp and don’t let it dry out on the grill.
What was on the grill last night drying out you will be eating tomorrow, I know cause I saw the chef put the old dry meat in the fridge for the next day. It was about
8 PM.
I happened to see him bring out a tray of six racks of ribs already cooked and put them in fridge also, more day old dry meat for tomorrow.
It’s all about the meat and it ain’t that good.

The food is incredible. The best BBQ around. You want BBQ you will remember, this is the place. Their sauces are also fantastic. The sweet and tangy was soo good we bought 2 bottles to take home. Yes you can but the sauce!!! We can’t wait to go back. 2nd time was just as good as the 1st, maybe better.
