This was my first time here. My son and I like to check out local establishments, and we ended up here for lunch and a beer.
I was pleasantly surprised at how clean this place was. Usually, these off the beaten path bars are not very clean, and the decor is overdone. This was a pleasant surprise. Clean and nicely decorated.
From my understanding, they are starting up the kitchen and working out some of the issues, and the fryer was not working. We got the burgers which came with chips instead.
It was one of the best burgers I have had in a bar. Not the typical frozen patty! It was seasoned correctly, and the toppings gave it a unique flavor combo. You can tell from the menu that this is not typical bar food but elevated to offer something different.
They also have a nice fenced-in outdoor patio area, which they are setting up for outdoor eating and relaxing.
There is plenty of parking! A few things that I would consider are an “Enter Here” by the door. The metal screen door looks like it is a safety door.
Once we realized that was the entrance, we sat at the bar and had our meal at the bar. There is a bar height table which you can also sit at, but there are no sit-down tables.
Besides the entrance needing some love to make it more inviting, some flowers or other signs might spice up the exterior as you enter.

Definitely a very casual townie bar feel/vibe! The bartender was SO nice! Drink prices were very expensive for what you get. If the drinks were a better price I would return, but they are just too expensive for the ambiance.

Have been there over the years but my first time with the new owner (past year). Food, service, and prices were very good! I would recommend it to friends and family. This page says cash only but that is not the case. I paid with a card.

Bonner Road Inn is once again serving food! This is a local bar in the beautiful town of Wauconda. Lots of “regulars” come here but as newbies we were totally welcomed and accepted. We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender who is great. For lunch my husband had the Bonner Burger and I had the Mediterranean Chicken Wrap. Both were excellent! Next time I want to try the massive pretzel and the Figs in a Blanket. There will soon be outdoor seating on the new deck and the menu will be expanded. They have Bingo nights and live entertainment occasionally. Great fun place! BTW, I had heard that it’s cash only but that’s not true!

l love this bar, it is my kind of place. Just walking through the front door puts a big smile on my face.
Update: Still going strong. Place looks better than ever.
2025 update: The food is amazing, tamales are noteworthy, burgers are great, taco Tuesday is worth the stop.

When I was 12-13 years old in 1977, 1978 the owner of this establishment at the time, Joe Kidd, would pay me $2/hr to sweep and mop the floors on Saturday and Sunday mornings. On Saturday mornings he would lock me in the bar so he could go out to breakfast with his buddies. So, I would pour myself a tall, frothy mug of Old Style and stare at it for a while before pouring it down the drain. I live in South Carolina now, but in 2016 I took a trip around the country by Amtrak, stopped in Chicago and rented a car to take my wife to visit Wauconda. We came here and I sat at the bar and drank an Old Style beer and pointed out to my wife that the tile was the same as what I swept and mopped in 1977. Thanks for the memories.

Breakfast can be had 7 days a week. Sundays hold a nice Bloodymary bar. You make the fixings yourself.
Can be quiet to loaded and loud depends on the day or night of the week. Good food!
